We got it back from MMC the same day, the horn was not working properly (which is required when negotiating the Newbridge roundabout sometimes)
Yeah ok, top was on because we were doing a quick change over of cars otherwise it would have definitely been off.
Cheers

What is it in there for?? A complete engine transplant or is it the usual wait for the factory parts?

Downshifting is stiff and sometimes needs a fair bit of effort to get the stick in place. It went in a few weeks ago and was told that I need a new gearbox. So, I phoned last week to see if it was in.. it wasn't. Apparently, Lotus don't want to swap mine, though they have done others. They want to open my box up and see what the problem is first. I was told bring the car along anytime, so I took it over last Wednesday night. Phoned yesterday lunchtime and they were just dropping the box. I phoned again at 1600, they cant find the locking wheel nut... I haven't touched the toolkit since I got the car so it should be there... guess I didn't get one as they cant find the paper code either. So 4 working days passed and as far as I know the gearbox is still attached to the car. It's still to be opened, Lotus informed of problem, either new parts or box to be delivered and then all fitted back. Good job the weather is cr@p

Must admit that needing a new gearbox is a bit worrying

how old is the car?
Definitely push for a new gearbox if you can. Years back I had a Calibra and the gearbox went on that. Vauxhall decided to fix rather than replace and to be honest it was never the same again
Hope things work out soon
What do you mean the weather is cr@p, we took the Elise in today and enjoyed open top motoring. Cragieb shamed me into doing it
Cheers

The car is still in warranty, so as per my Mk1 Elise and MMC, we just took it for granted that a new box would be coming.
As for the weather... sarcasm.. the lowest form of wit.

Just spoke to MMC.. it's the 3rd and 4th gear synchros that are gubbed. Waiting on Lotus for further recommended action.. either repair or new box. MMC reckon it will be a new box though should find out by end of tomorrow.

Here hoping that it is a new box
If they replace it then at least they get the opportunity to have a look at the box to see whether it is a manufacturing defect.
Fingers crossed for you.

Spoke to MMC today, since no return of calls. Lotus have said MMC can make the decision!... so new box being ordered on Monday. Should have the car back by this time next week, cough.

dunno why,... they told me that they were waiting on lotus for recommended actions on Wed, which kinda implied that they had done all the work needed until then.. unless they were fixing the rattly window!

No new gearbox coming from Lotus. They want to change the internals = so parts have been ordered and I may have the car back for Friday night.
