Let's face it, if the car does catch fire, the last thing you want to be doing is reaching into the pax footwell when you're surrounded by GRP. These things burn fast, just look on wreckedexotics.com and you'll see.
There was a video of a 340R on seloc recently, where the car just caught fire on the road. The guy had enough time to stop and get out and by that point it was beyond help.

I had mine in the pax footwell in the old car but yet to mount it properly in the Exige. I'm going for in front of the pax seat (might get something like this made up but also incorporating crutch strap mounting...)

You need to consider mounting it within reach as god forbid in the event of a serious accident you may be trapped in the seat. An extinguisher within reach could then be a lifesaver...
