Just my opinion but get an elise/exige! Had our s2 elise for just over a year and still smitten. Mind and let us all know what you decide on!

Re: Hello from Fife!
Have had my Elise for two weeks. It is truly the dream car i had dreamt it would be. My advice... there can be no choice. i have driven passed Mx thingies all week and can only imagine that all the drivers are thinking is... "jeez I wish i had one of those".
this week in Classic cars for sale" there is a good article. Brett Fraser says "When you write about cars for a living there's one question you get asked above all others and that's what's the best car you have driven?" "jut a single answer: the Lotus Elise S1" "it's the ultimate sports car in my view"
I can only think that Mx5's are driven by people who cant afford a Lotus and TVR's are bought by people who have so much money that they feel they need to spend it.

oh and i'm sure he meant the S2 S1 was a typeo.

Howdy mate!
Elise....great fun.....great on sunny days (no roof)!
Exige......a bit more fun in the dry, amore INTERESTING in the wet/cold.....excellent on track!
Depends on what you end up using it for???
I thought about a VX turbo.......and then bought an s2 elise.

I'm gonna go with the regular response with a twist...
Elise: you'd love it to bits but factor in possibly repair costs if its an s1/k series s2
Exige: If you have the money, but then would you be considering the mx5?!
vx220: Lotus in drag. I personally like the looks, but can you live with the badge
TVR: It'll break lots. No matter which one you buy.
Mx5: You said:
The '5 is a great little car that's cheap, fun to drive, reliable as heck and the roof comes off so there's an added bonus!
I really like the mx5.
Desicion time:
I'd buy an S1. Even if mine is in bits at the moment, I still love it more than all the others.
/proper smitten :p

If you said "Fun daily runner that will do lots of miles" I'd say yes. I don't subscribe to the hairdresser crap that most throw around - I drive an mx5 every day... it's my girlfriends... she's not a hairdressera toy for occasional driving and possibly track days.

Re: Hello from Fife!
This isn't going to be popular.....
The Elise looks great, especially the S2 but the engines are sh*t. Unreliable K-series or revvy but not-very-good-for-everyday-road-driving Toyota lump.
The VX220 on the other hand doesn't look as nice as an S2 but has a far better engine. You get more for your money too (purely becasue fo the badge).
Having said that, a supercharged Exige would be my choice if money was no object.
Regarding Mr Lazy's offer of a look-see at his car, he made the exact same offer to me a couple of years ago. I had planned on buying a VX in about 9-12 months. 3 Months after baing taken for a spin by Lazy, VXjon and Wil Scotland I had bought one.

It was quite amusing to see your stance changing over the course of the couple of hours you were at knockhillStevoraith wrote:Regarding Mr Lazy's offer of a look-see at his car, he made the exact same offer to me a couple of years ago. To be honest, even though i've got a VX i can see the appeal in all three - now that i've got mine it makes no sense to trade it for another loti as you're getting into the territory of spending tens of thousands to get small incremental improvements. However if i was buying again i'd look carefully at all the options. The K engine originally put my off the lizzy but seeing how easy and cheap they are to work on / replace if they go bang i'd be less worried now.
Value for money wise a VX is still quite hard to beat though.

Re: Hello from Fife!
Here is my 2p.
If it is value for money, I dont think you can get past the VX220 very easily. It has all handling of an elise and a better engine. If you want a badge and would spend your time explaining away it is really an elise but has been sold with a Vauxhall badge etc then the Elise/Lotus is for you.
The TVR will be cool for about 2 months until its first major engine/electrical problem.
Pitty VXJon's car is no longer with us or else that would have been the car for you.
Good luck with the search.
