Your story sounds familiar, I wasn't going to track mine and I use to want a hard top

:welcome from another Langtonian.
Can't really advise on what variant to choose, there are others on here with more knowledge.
What I do know is that whatever variant you choose you will have great fun 'cos they corner on rails and great fun on the track.
Type 72 my first Elise sold 2006

and missed it so much I have just bought an Elise SC in one of the "Smartie" colours which are great fun.

Hard top or no hard top that is the question.
Personally I think a hard top sets the car off nicely and is useful in the winter especially if you keep the car outside in all weathers.
In the summer you have to go topless :D See you around I hope.

I don't know driving in another way which isn't risky. Each one has to improve himself. Each driver has its limit. My limit is a little bit further than other's.

:welcome Good luck with the search. I also opted for the hardtop in my purchase. Payed a little more for it and think it is worthwhile for the winter as I don't have a garage, also gives the car a different look. Really comes down to opinion like 90% of the stuff on here. Just got to absorb the advice given and make your decision  :thumbsup

Hi dave - I have also come from the world of classic Minis, as has ceejam - from macdonald Minis in Edinbirgh, so hi if you recognise my name etc...

for your price range, i'd also consider the vx220 (if you like the looks) as they are basically Elises in many respects, but have a slightly more bullet proof engine in the back than the Rover, and for most of your cash range, you'll be looking at a Rover. That said, I was bitten by the dreaded HGF so maybe i'm not the best to advise.

I have an earlyish S1 with a hardtop, which spends most of it's time in doors, so think about storage space, especially for the S1 and early S2s with the larger long tail roof (ie the roof stretches back beyond the rear window, whilst later ones do not)

I'd say your best bet, and advise that is often spread around here, is to get yourself to a trackday to have a chat and a sit in different peoples cars, and see the pros and cons of ownership.

I'd recommend the AMP3 charity track night at the end of this month, as then you can gain a wealth of expertise, and also donate to a good cause :D

Hi mate.. I'm in Glenrothes...

When I get my car back from Ali your welcome to pop over to have a look over it... a pax run over the hill will no doubt leave a lasting impression on you..

Oh.. I dont polish mine..or wash it.. or have a hardtop.. or a stereo.. 8)
Well it moves... might as well make the most of it....
