Yeah a 172 cup RS Clio. Its been fun to drive and relatively cheap but I've had constant issues with it from new.Dominic wrote:![]()
Would I be correct to think you have a Renault Sport Clio? I use to have one too. Cracking wee car.![]()
Its set me up for elise ownership from what i've heard!!
Thanks for the welcome guys

Had my mark 1 172 from new, and in 18 months had nothing but problems. First 6 months were not too bad, but from then on, in was in the garage almost every week. Eventually I got really sick of the constant break downs (the garage told me the wiring loom had been cooked by the manifoldQuick 172 Cup wrote:Yeah a 172 cup RS Clio. Soon after I had a Liz. It was far more reliable... in over a year, and 20,000 miles it never let me down once.

Where are you based?

im assuming you just want the 'specialist' for usual servicing...?
if so, dont let location put you off - just make sure you use the bendy roads on the way there!

Thanks for that! People have been telling me not to go anywhere near a kseries engined elise as it will cause more problems than my clio! I drove the new toyota engined "s" and loved it...Dominic wrote:Had my mark 1 172 from new, and in 18 months had nothing but problems. Thanks for the welcome guys) so traded it in
It was a great fun car to drive, but really badly put together.

Oh and im from the north of glasgow (bearsden)

Thanks again for the welcomes..

problems with K-series engines are an urban legend. Everyone (me included) is/was bombarded with tales of head gasket failure but I've yet to see anyone on here have a problem. i've had mine for 20k miles with no probs, Campbell et al are on 60k without issue. In fact, i think the toyota engined cars from this board have been more troublesome than the Ks!
Also, there's such a depth of experience here on K-series engined cars, you could probably get whatever's wrong with it fixed for a crate of lager and a bacon & egg roll
All you need to do is make sure the oil is up to temperature for the first 5-10 minutes of your drive, and keep it below 3krpm until then. If you're a weedgie, you'll have no choice but to obey that rule as the traffic's so bad
If you're really concerned, get the AA parts & labour warranty for £90, that'll cover HGF. However, like many on here you'll junk it after the forst trouble free year

I had a 111r and have just got an S1 for peanuts. Getting it ready for the lotrdc elise trophy.
The s2 feels more car like, the s1 feels more go karty and not as well put together. If its used every day I'd favour the S2.
For weekends an S1 could be spot on for minimal outlay
(having said that you should see how much i've spent in the last 3 weeks)
