hello,
a question for the fashion police out there

just done our first 500 miles today and taking it pretty easy on the revs and accelerator.
the handbook says "for the first 600 miles use no more than moderate (half) throttle openings and do not run the engine continuously at engine speeds of over 4,500 rpm. Occasional short bursts at a wider (than half) throttle and higher rpm will be beneficial"
So we have managed the keeping it under 4,500 rpm thing but can anyone give me advice on the occasional short bursts? Say in a 50 mile journey how many times do you reckon you can give it a bit more? and how much more? 6000 rpm? ...second cam?
any advice (non-fashion) appreciated!

Hiya,
ok, you've got a real problem here called the ECU / Datalogger - It records how many seconds the engine has spent at a particular rotational speed, how many standing starts you've done, time spent at each throttle zone etc etc etc..... Hethnel IS watching you
Giving the engine a "wee boot" will probably do it no harm - people bench test engines to 100% power with minimal running in, but MMC will know about it & they look after your engine warranty....
Best bet is to be a good boy until the oil service then "rag the sh1t out of it" as they say round here
Cheers,
Steve

What Steve said.
I've recently just run in my new Exige (same engine) and followed the rules strictly. In a two week period of building up 1000 miles, I gave it a blast of full throttle for a wee second maybe once or twice every 3 days or thereabouts. I generally kept it below 4,500rpm but took it up to just over 5000rpm a few times in the two weeks. I never used 2nd cam at all.
One of the main things is to also try to vary your engine speed, so don't sit on a motorway at 70mph at 3,500rpm constantly for an hour! Vary it up and down the rev range a bit and try to use all the gears as much as possible.
By the end of the 1000 mile running-in, you'll actually feel things loosen up a wee bit. For example, my gearstick felt a bit smoother and less stiff.
Once you've had the oil changed, Lotus recommend an aggressive running in, so you can use the 2nd cam all the time thereafter and give it a good bedding in by ripping the arse out of it!
Cheers,
D

Then why can I not see her white stick and dog in the picture?

I find it funny chaps that someone with a bit of individualism has the baws to dress differently, not to mention post up a picture, and he gets berated for it!!
Phraze, you will find once you come and meet everyone up at Knockhill, or whenever your first chance is, that you can have a laugh at some of these fashion gurus!!!

To be honest I hadn't even thought about how I was dressed...was thinking too much about getting the new car!
Might start a fashion thread...
