Fair enough mate - sorry if it seemed like you were being leapt on as soon as you joined! It's a bloody mystery to everyone on here why G hasn't sold his car yet and it seems the perfect car for a new owner.
Not a problem.

From a buyers point of view i think the fact the car has not been sold is simply because there really is so much out there. Looking on Pistonheads there are about 90 s1's up for grabs, then look on ebay and there are always a good few. Admittedly you know nothing of the history, but the first thing most people look at is price, and at the moment S1's seem to be going for less than 10k with lower milage. A 111s sold on ebay yesterday for 10.5 with similar miles and full history etc. Now sun is out should be a few more buyers about, and if it as good as everyones says it is, then should sell.

Just my opinion.

Fair enough, I just think we would all like to see Gordons car stay with an SE member!

If you spot one you fancy, post it up on here and see if anyone knows it. There aren't that many about. Failing that I'm sure someone will take a gander at it with you if you want a bit of moral (And technical) support.

Nothing will sharpen a sellers mind faster than soemone who turns up in a similar car......

Heh, there's an old saying round these parts:

"A 9 grand Elise is just a 12 grand Elise that needs 3 grands worth of work"

Been shocked at prices recently though... Great for you buyers, bloody sickening for us owners.

When I got mine (okay, 4 years ago) it lightened me by 20 grand!

Worth every bloody penny though... 8)

Welcome!
If I was buying an S1 again, I would ONLY be looking at what parts the previous owner had replaced in the last 12 months and what condition it was in.

I traded in my S1 and it needed £1200 of work straight away, it had done 42k. I think Gareths S1 was the same, it needed work. But if you only look at the numbers on the stack then it could prove to be expensive!

Funnily, I've enjoyed the engine swap process. I'm a bit "Zen & the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance" like that....

Still, when it's done....

Best get on with it then! I have to agree that it has the makings of a monster!
As long as the timing belts are on right...

I have every confidence that the next VVC engine that David works on will be fine!
(Only jesting, It'll be fine, but I to see the expression when you first turn it over!)

well for what its worth, this is the one that is holding my interest at the moment.

http://pistonheads.com/sales/71252.htm

Had cambelt done in 2004 i think, and looks mint (to me).

Any thoughts?

And yes it is miles away, but not too bothered about travelling for the right car.

Does look nice, but I dont think its worth £2.5k more than the sport135 for sale on here. And at least the last two owners of the s135 for sale on here are SE members, so you`d know where its been!

Enquire about servicing (where and how often) Has it had balljoints/TRE's/bearings? Tyres (what type and how old - original P Zeros will be borderline lethal by now)

As JJ says - it's not the mileage, it's the maintenance. They will deteriorate just sitting there (even in a garage)

Seems a clean car though. 8)

Remember that a full service history requires a service every 9k miles or every year as well as brake fluid change every year (Unless you boil them!) and a coolant change every 2 years.

Probably not a real problem as long as it has been seriviced regually but a bargaining chip at least ;)

My liz had crappy tyres on it when I picked her up and looking back it was lucky that I didn't kill myself, they were properly rubbish.
(Star Performer's - advertised as made in "Western Europe" that'll be Poland then )

Cheers for that, will ask a few more questions and see what the response is. I know she is not keen on dropping the price too much, and i agree it is a little overpriced compared to the one on here.

Have sent a PM for the one on this board which i have to assume is a fairly good example as well?

Martin, I'll gladly admit that you were man enough to have the roof off on the last Rannoch run, but don't be getting ahead of yourself ;)

After all, ABS & servo-assistance do not a hirsuite chest make.....
