Christophe

I have a lot of experience in driving Honda engined Elises, but for advice on the conversion itself my friend Craig from a couple of miles up the road is the expert.

He bought a used Honda UK Type-R S/C engine from a wreck, and fitted it himself to his S1 Elise.

Thank you for the information Tut. Your friend Craig is him also on this forum?

I also consider to make the conversion alone but some pieces which it is absolutely necessary to possess. Gearbox and the engine it is not the probleme, but the rest seems more difficult and rather expensive

Yes he posts as r10crw, Craig Wallace, which is his number plate. He has just gone off to the Canaries work wise for three weeks.

As you say the kit is the problem, but there is not much that he can not do, or get done, on an Elise. He made his own engine mounts, gear change linkage, (he also made a spare set), part of the wiring loom but bought some bits in. He photographed it all along the way which also helps, and of course it is easier the second time around when you have already met all the problems, which are inevitable.

He later sold it to Jacobite, and bought a CAT C Exige S. After repairing the suspension and bodywork and getting it resprayed, he increased the power to 310hp, Gotham ECU re-map, chargecooler etc, so it is now quite a mover.

He is one of the very few to have done a conversion on his own, and it is not for the faint hearted, but he both enjoyed doing it, and it was a lot less expensive than the £10K that the official conversions cost.

If you would like to speak to him, give me a reminder in three weeks and I will put you in touch.

Cheers

I'm not guilty for that photo, it's Scotty's old car. I also 'tondeuse à gazon'... (excuse my french) :D

Good excuse for some FF6 pictures (French Frolic 2007).

A lot of thanks Tut to your answer :thumbsup

I'm really interesting in this conversion and it's hard to know somedy competent in .

In France just some few Elise are converted because of the COC ... we only can drive a Honda Elise on track

Your laws are more flexible than us ...

I just send some photo of my 111S in Lurcy 2008

Ah, juicy Lucy. As your hood is up I presume that the weather was the same as when we were there in 2007, bloody wet.

I think all of us were off the track and into the grass several times, plus the 360's and 720's, and Scotty going straight on at at the end of the straight at 100 or so.

However it was a hoot, and it saved our tyres for Charade.

In fact, these conditions were excellent to feel well the behavior of the Lotus and this flat circuit with of big degagements is reassuring.

The same conditions on Charade and you are not sure to come back in Scotland .

Toto... Tambo lives round the corner from me. Next time I see him at the shops, I'll pass on your well wishes & let him know about your offer of a passenger ride if he's over your way.

Hi Christophe
welcome along
I've got Craigs old Elise with the S/C Honda in it although I'm presently re building it after my brother had a wee off in it,
Mechanically Craig did an excllent job its very similar to the link up kit.It did take him a lot of hard work sorting out driveshafts CV Joints etc etc I have a copy of his photo file for the conversion if its any help

I also have Pheonix Motorsport converted N/A which was converted by them in 07 and proved very reliable ~you supply your own engine for the conversion and it uses the origional Honda Type R manifold and can use the origional Honda ECU
Oli and Greg @ Pheonix are helpfully enough any time I've been in touch with them +441254384071
Although I shoud warn you that once you've tried a HondaElise you wouldnt want to go back to a std one

Hi Christophe
I'll sort out some photos of Craigs conversion later as there on the laptop and I'm just heading out
there is also the Stark kit a thread about it here on SELOC

http://www.stark-automotive.co.uk/conversion.html

http://forums.seloc.org/viewthread.php?tid=196201

Generally there is a lot of contraversy caused by the various Engine conversions and discussions over on SELOC can be a can of worms ~people wishing they never asked the ?
