Not exactly over budget. More - too much for that car. My budget can go a wee bit higher but I dont want to dive in and not be able to afford food and beer. :D

:welcome along Gav.

Gav used to be in my college classes, drop out.

S1's are the best but a bit old and difficult to live with. You know where I am if you need a hand with anything.

:welcome Gav,
As discussed at Alsford if you want to compare the S2 to the S1 I could take my S2 111S round to Alans for you to have a look at.
I did love the S1 but after using it daily for over 2 years the S2 is certainly easier to live with IMHO.

Welcome along Gav.

I'm a lowly S1 owner of 11 years with all the scars to prove it, so commenting on S2s is hardly my bag, baby...however...word on the street is that a S2 111S is a cracking all-rounder. The extra horses won't count for much on the road but will make trackdays feel a bit more special. The adjusted gearbox also means trackdays can be enjoyed but cruising is a little less frantic (you said the car is for everyday as well). And the spec for the S2 111S is pretty tasty too, as I recall, with quite cool alloys that aped some Aston ones of the time IIRC.

I've got my eye on S2s for the day when my S1 is too hard to live with, so I'm trying to learn the things to look for.

If I had carte blanche choice today I'd find an Ice Blue S2 111S and be done with it ;-) But as I'd want to keep the S1 in the family, that ain't going to happen

On the other hand, a decent early S2 would be a great way for you to enter the fold, and whilst you won't get the torque surge you are used to from the Impreza, you WILL get a zizzy throttle response, kart-like sense of speed (to enjoy your roads at a less license-losing pace) and a connection to the road and the driving experience like you never imagined.

We ran a MY99 Turbo for 3 years, at the same time as the Elise (in the days before kids and rip-off fuel duty), and they were a great pair. Incredibly, the less practical car stood the test of time. Be warned!

Have fun choosing and ask as many questions here as you possibly can.

Allan - I prefer the term 'decided to persue other interests'
I've been looking again and there are 3 I think i'm going to look at on Saturday. As I said i'd want to trade in rather than have to sell private so dealers are the way I'm going first.
2 'normal' S2s and a 111S in Newcastle I might have a burn down to see.

Congrats!! :thumbsup

Think Wendy and I met you in the showroom just after you did the deal with Graeme. :D
The S2 looked in great condition. We were chatting after you left about the fact that I don't think you ever get the same Buzz of excitement about the 2nd, 3rd or 4th Lotus as you do about the first one. Enjoy :cheers
