So excited! Soon to become an Elise owner!
Cheers for all the tips folks . . . and for making me feel very welcome.
Yes, it was Gavin at MMC. Just called him this morning and I'm picking it up on Saturday morning. Woohoo! Here's hoping the weather's nice!
Can't make it tonight I'm afraid, but will try to come to Knockhill at some point. Will also check out that driver training.
Regarding the running in, it's already got over 3000 miles on the clock (it's an '05 plate ex-demo) and Gavin said he'd done the obligatory 1000 miles running in, so I guess I don't need to do anything special?
Oh, and I was also told about not over-revving until the engine's up to temperature . . . what's the exact temperature and what should I keep the revs under until I hit the temp?
Cheers,
D

normally the running temp is circa 80 degrees. The readout on the temp guage relates to your coolant rather than the oil. Normally, allow the coolant to get up to temp, and then give it another 5 minutes for the oil to reach that temperature.
With a K-series, I keep my engine below 3k until up to temp. however, my engine is torquier at that stage, and a 'yota 3k si like a K's 1k, so no doubt some of the posh lads with their fancy engines will be along to tell you what revs you should stick to.
PS - expect to be like a 5 year old on Xmas eve on Friday

If its been the demo, I'd get them to print you a copy of the telemetry that the ECU stores before you take ownership.
Just in case it has been abused (and not saying it has), as this will affect any potential warranty claim. Trust me well worth it, as demo's do get a bit of abuse earlier than they perhaps should.
Also the T&C's of the warranty for engine cover are specific, and for my new engine Lotus actually want a copy of the telemetry after the 1k running in period to check its been done properly??!!
As mentioned above though, until the engine warms up, it won't let you use 2nd cam.....once it does usually on mine when the temp appears in the display at 70C or above, then you are good to use the full range of the power.
Another tip, avoid changing down at really high revs. You can bypass the limiter, but I suspect you'd only get close to this on track.......

Good advice Andy. Dezzy, don't be afraid to ask for this info from Gavin, he'll understand fullyAndy G wrote:Dude

jke11y, I'm just outside Glasgow (West), but you'll see me in and around Glasgow most of the time. I work near Charing Cross (towards West End), so if you see an '05 Storm Titanium 111R parked around there as of this weekend, that'll be me.
Good tip about the telemetry. Thanks! I'll ask Gavin about it tomorrow. And cheers for the temperature tips.
BTW, Halifax insurance are a nightmare. I'm with them for my Honda Civic at the moment and they gave me a quote to change to the Elise for the rest of my policy, up til October this year. Although it was a bit expensive, was worth it to ensure I still get my full year's no claims for the past year up til October. However, after several phonecalls to complete idiots in their call centre, their under-writers said I need 5 years no claims to ensure an Elise.
Have just got a really good quote from Admiral (sticking my mum on it made a big difference), but I'll need to start from scratch and lose this year's no claims bonus that I would have had from Halifax come October. Grrrrrr!
I can't wait for Saturday. I'm not going to be able to sleep tonight or tomorrow!

Forgot to reply to this earlier . . . Yes, he took me to the roundabouts in Hillington Industrial Estate. I thought he might. I know that area quite well and it's ideal for showing what the car can do. (not that I can do half the stuff he can!).GregR wrote:Congrats on your purchase, I take it it was Gavin at MMC in Glasgow? He sold me my car last september - he really is a great driver! (I'd be interested to know if he used the same industrial estate roundabouts to show off your car to you!) Say Hi to him for me, lovely lad and very helpful.
