:welcome i am in rosyth and have a standard S1 except exhaust and air filter thingy, i would get a shot of a standard car if u can find a good one and access from that.I find the standard car fast enough for the road also it will give u a reference point as most upgrades are a personal thing and some will not even be that noticeable unless u are a real petrol head and track it too. i also have a 96 elan which is a reliable if slightly dodgy lotus hello purests its my wifes.if u want to sit in and see a standard car in what i consider best condition u will get i would take u out in it but needs to be before 30 nov as it goes off on sorn for winter

and will use it on a daily basis but will only be doing a few miles each day. Also need a hardtop. I presume these are easy enough to come by if the car I eventually choose doesnt have one.
Ta,
Hi Dave welcome along
I've got a hart top on mine ~Lachie's a bigger fan of the hardtop than me, as I prefer the wind in the hair (while I've still got some)
Although it is nice to get in the car and find it dry if your looking for an S1 try and get one with the later soft top which has a double flap over the door window's which seal much better

Hardtops go for between £500-£750 for origional ones ~ with it costing 150-200 to sparay it to match so if you find a nice car with a Hardtop its a bonus and someone will already have taken a hit on the cost of it ~dont seem to add much to the purchase price of the car but perhaps make it easier to sell

Good luck with your searches. I'm on my second Elise now and have never regretted the day I got my first.
On the topic of hardtops, my new Elise has one and I do find it makes a big difference in the winter (particularly as it's parked outside). I usually put it on around the end of October and leave it until early spring. I found the old car without the hardtop leaked a bit in heavy rain, but not enough to cause concern, you just learn to live with these things (all adds to the fun of lotus owning  ). As for storage, I find it fits perfectly under the bed when not in use.

Whatever you end up with (and I'm sure you will get one) enjoy yourself :D
