There is only room for one C*NT round here and that's me...greedyboythomson wrote:Okay, maybe the HGF gag wasn't the way to endear myself!Gareth, I apologise sincerely, I posted the correction sharpish so I hadn't expected you to take offence. Yeah, and I got the colour mixed up too...
The bloke that owns it works in Edinburgh, so it might not be the same guy.

I would of been at KH earlier this year...
I reckon the whole "a tracked car is better maintained than a road car" speak is utter sh!te tbh. Who's to say that if I didn't track my car it's less looked after than someone that does? The truth is, any car that is looked after properly is worth looking at. How you tell that car apart from another is the difficult bit.
I wouldn't discount a tracked car just because it's been thrashed round KH. Elises are driven hard most of the time, it's their intended purpose and any 2nd hand one will have had that.

Dude, we're talking law of averages. Which would you go for:simon wrote:I reckon the whole "a tracked car is better maintained than a road car" speak is utter sh!te tbh. 2000 S1 - 9000 miles, occasional use.
1999 S1 - 35,000 miles, road and track use, maintained regardless of cost.
There are some who would just look at the numbers in the examples above and see the 2000 car as better. Clearly, it's unlikely to be the case. I'm not suggesting that you don't look at a car that's not been tracked FFS! Just to think more about the care that's been taken over it.
BTW - you'd be amazed how many Elises (who's owners wouldn't touch an internet group) get used as town-bound posing wagons. One car I've looked at clearly hadn't been driven above 50mph for years - as it'd have the owner in a hedge if it had!

I would pick the track car but I don't think that's a fair comparison of 2 average Elises. e.g. I have a friend who owns an early S1 and it's done 40k+ miles and never seen any track action but I know it's been very well maintained. I would pick it over a lower mileage tracked car every time as it's been well maintained.
Fair enough, not a straight comparison - but from what he posted, the guy asking the question would have jumped straight at car 1.
You're getting hung up on the track thing. I reacted to the guy when he laughed at the thought of buying a tracked car. At no point do I say don't buy a car that isn't tracked!
We're saying the same thing - look for a car that's been maintainted properly. Doesn't matter if it's tracked or not. My only point is that through necessity most tracked cars will be looked after. With a road only car, it's not a certainty, but of course every road-only user doesn't just let it rot.

Not getting hung up on it, just that I've read similar stuff on selcock where the person says "blah blah track car better blah blah etc." and probably didn't read your post properly as with 1100 posts to read, I really cba!Shug wrote:You're getting hung up on the track thing. What people are trying to do is to attempt to counter the common misconception that a tracked car = an abused car. There are always exceptions.simon wrote:I would pick the track car but I don't think that's a fair comparison of 2 average Elises. e.g. I have a friend who owns an early S1 and it's done 40k+ miles and never seen any track action but I know it's been very well maintained.
