Another Newbie (Lanarkshire) - Few pics of current Jalopy

Post by s29ttc » Fri May 16, 2008 9:09 am

Hi all :D

I am Scott from Bellshill near Glasgow, currently driving a 1.4HDi peugeot 206. Bought it couple years back for cheapness to run through my apprentiship as an engineer. (£35 tax a year and 65mpg can't wack it).

I will be qualifying next year and hope to move on to bigger and better things i.e. exige erm mabye bigger wasnt quite correct. Anyways over the next year I hope to basically throw all my money at getting the fiance on the peugeot down to a minimum.

My plans are to buy a chrome orange exige with the toyota engine, although this could possibly change. I have basically signed up to try educate myself over the next year. Want to have knowledge of whats best to go for, depending on my budget next year. I hope to be able to spend 21k-25k roughly but I shall see. I also would like to try keep my peugeot for my runabout and keep the exige for wknd and fun, this again all dependant on budget.

Anyways Ive rabbled enough but I though I would introduce myself and hope to gain loads of knowledge over the next year before finialling getting the exige.

Good lad - welcome along.

Only thing I'll say is that if you're keeping a daily hack, the S2 Exige is maybe a bit sensible - it's only an S2 coupe after all... Perhaps an S1 Exige (the real one) In all seriousness though, if I was gonna be in a position to spend S2 Exige money on something and had a sensible daily hack, I'd go nuts and get something mentalish (S1 Exige, 340R) which basically won't lose you much if you keep it for a couple of years and then sell on...

Now I'll sit back and let the fight commence

Well it will all come down to pounds and pennies next year. My mum said she would happily take my peugeot if needed. If I can afford the peugeot with the exige then I will keep it to jump to work and back. My heart has been set on the s2 Exige, toyota engine in chrome orange. I want something with lower miles and something which will be easy on the insurance as possible due to my tender age aha. I done one quote for buying one a month ago and it was 1700 a year so hopefully by next year it has crept down a bit and with a bit more searching.

Ive been reading bits and bobs but really need to start learning more and more about them before I get one. I have been looking about and cant find much on them. Seems to be laods of models kicking about like 111s, 240, 340 s1 s1 exige s2 s2 exige then rover k series toyoto honda etc all a bit confussing so hopfully after a year on here I will have gained a bit more knowledge on what exactly to go for model wise which additional kit etc. haha :cheers

Wow. Someone who gets it in the right order! Well done - most folk (me included) only joined up here after buying the car and then you find out about it. Lots on here, so wire in!

(oh, and pay no attention to the S1 vs S2 chat - it's all good natured banter. Even Noops :thumbsup )

What is the better exige s1 or s2?

Hello.
I was behind your car on St Vincent street the other day, I think I see it doing many laps of the city centre

I have had both S1 and S2 Exiges and they are very different. Have you been out in any yet? I dont know how you can say without trying them.

I was about £900 for my insurance on the s2 exige at 22, and philthy pays £650ish for his s1 exige and he is 22 so I know they cant be insured cheaper.

Anyway, welcome along, just dont do a deano and take too long :thumbsup

Not been out in one yet, but gazzed at them many times and had a closer look at a few at KH.Anyones wishes a passenger at any point I will be more than happy to accompany them !! hahaha :thumbsup There is a guy, from barrhead I think, J44MMA with a chrome orange cup I think......? :?

Absolutely stunning and exactly what I want. I am 21 the now, will be 22 by time I go for it as I qualify in Aug next year, mabye 23 as my birthday is in October. I will obviously be taking my time choosing one.

Excuse this comment as it will probs start a few arguements but the sole reason I want to go for the toyato engine is realiablity. Mabye I am naive to this but I expect there to be less problems with the toyota than the rover??

Not really - they are two different things.

S2 Exige - better at driving daily / had AC / not as noisy or fumey, heavier, some people dont like the engine and prefer the SC version
S1 Exige - I prefer it on track to the s2, quicker and feels lighter, depreciation free

J33AMAs is a touring - the cup were the 240brake versions and are about £30k. By contrast, there is an orange 190 on autotrader at £18995 just now so big difference in the prices.

a better question would be what is more suited for .......... (insert what you want it for)...... an S1 or S2 it horses for courses.

J44MMA posts on here and is probably the 2nd most debated subject :P

If you want to combine looking at lots of Loti then best thing to do would be pop along to a trackday at Knockhill, as luck would have it we will all be there tomorrow for the SIDC (9-1pm) Most of us will be willing to take you out out for pax laps to let you see the difference .

I have a silver S2 Exige N/A with no nancy boy traction control, talent masking supercharger or air con (ie the one you want) just give me a nudge if you want a pax lap.
