Hello from Kirkcaldy

Post by davesminis » Sun Jul 27, 2008 12:18 am

Hi,

I am Dave. I stay in Kirkcaldy, Fife.

I dont yet have an Elise but have wanted one since seeing the S1 when it came out when I was young. Now that I am 25 and can actually get insured for one I have to have one! I need to learn more about them so thought I would join the forum. I am also into minis and have found the forums there very helpful.
I want an S2 but would appreciate guidance on models etc and what I should avoid/look out for etc. I have between 8 and 14K to spend (maybe slightly more). Obviously this means I can only reach as far as a fairly early example. Any info offered by you guys would be much appreciated though.

Thanks in advance! :cheers

:welcome Dave.

That's quite a big price range. Your money may go further than you think. At the top end you are reaching into a 2002 111s which gives you 156bhp as opposed to 120bhp on the rover engine. If you post up a bit more on what you want to use the car for - daily driver, track use ony, to polish & cherish etc. there will be plenty of advice coming your way soon on which of the variants may suit you best. We'll get you in one before the summer is out ! :thumbsup

Hi,

Thanks for info. I will not be using the car on the track (well....dont intend to anyway) and will use it on a daily basis but will only be doing a few miles each day. Mostly it will be to polish etc and meet up with other owners and enjoy at weekends on nice dry days. Also need a hardtop. I presume these are easy enough to come by if the car I eventually choose doesnt have one.

hi Dave,
:welcome

have a look on here if you haven't done so already http://www.elises.co.uk/models/

then look on pistonheads for cars that are for sale.
Be prepared to travel down south to get a good car at a nice price. Loads of bargains around just now. When i was looking, RichH on here met up with me in Preston to look at a car in Manchester and im forever grateful for that!
im sure theres a buying guide kicking around here too...

Also, keep an eye on the meets section and get round to Knockhill on a trackday or a meet somewhere.
someone will take you out as a passenger (pax) and show you how to handle one of these cars round the track - you'll be amazed!
dont worry there's no secret handshakes or anything like that - just turn up, say your on SE and ask away.

Also, look on insurance section for expected costs
What makes this place different from any other is the willingness of everyone to help you (not just on the forum)
Theres a few members on here from Kirkaldy i think...?

Cheers
Ross

No u don't.... :thumbsup EVERY new Lotus owner thinks that they do but they just don't.

You'll buy it, take it off, leave it in the garage then sell it later on. And you'll have paid probably a slightly higher price for it in the first place

Oh and :welcome

If your talking daily driver and want an S2, use the full 14k budget and buy a 111s.

Or, buy a cheap S1 for the bottom end of ur budger at 8k, and then spend a couple of £'s doing it up.

Either way you'll have a blast

p.s. - don't admit that you want it just for polishing  Its a Lotus!!!

Typical newbie question - what does HGF mean?

Thanks,
