The man who was bad enough to drive L60LOT away fromScotland

Hello everyone!

Yes, it was me. Since rautec (of eliseforum.de fame) didn't fancy to drive his newly acquired Elise in the left-hand-drive-traffic towards the ferry. If you are interested: The Elise arrived in Berlin in top shape, only a little bit dirty.
The dirt has to do with the weather en route. As soon as we had left Scotland, the weather decided it was a good idea to fear us with gusty winds and constant downpour. Which I really understood, since we actually removed Ed Elise from its natural habitat.

Just to make sure that the new owner is happy with his new Elise and that he uses it in a correct way:

When we met Ed on Saturday, he mentioned that interweb thing, and I remembered that there are at least two Scottish Elisers I have met before. Campbell and (more frequently compared to Campbell) Robin Iddon. I think it must be something like ten years ago that I last met Campbell, but I keep on meeting Robin at the Ring every now and then.

I still have and love my first and only Elise, with which I took part in Stelvio99 and Stelvio2000. Today I use her mailny on the Ring and for the occasional dash into the alps. But driving in Switzerland, where I live again, is a bit of a pain since having fun while using a vehicle is strictly verboten!

Anyway: Maybe I come back and repeat the crime. I am currently looking for a second Elise. Preferably a later Mk.1 with steel uprights and no MMCs. I want to put "my" K-Series into it, the C4BP gearbox and use it as my Ring car. With sticky rubber, a decent seat and six-point-harness.
So if anyone has the idea of selling his or her Elise, even if it will leave its home for Switzerland or Germany, let me know!
If you have any doubts about my seriousness, ask Ed: I'm a serious and reasonable guy

Cheers, Joerg

Glad to see it's gone to an appreciative home - that was a lovely car...

Hi Joerg! Good luck with getting another Elise - plenty of them on the market here in the UK I think!

I still do the odd trip to the mountains though have more or less given up on the ring on tourist days ... too many crap trips spoiled by either weather or sheer stupidity or both :-(

Cheers,
Robin

Joerg,

You know the strangest thing. I was just thinking of you the other day, and thrills and spills we all had on Stelvio99. Not least the challenges of the hotels near the Ring and the grand dinner in the Dorint Motorsport Hotel etc :-) Very happy memories and great to see you behind the wheel of such a legendary Elise!

Happy to report I still have my original 99 S1, albeit with a few minor improvements now and around 120,000 km on the clock! I have been back to the Ring since the one very, very wet lap I did on hard Pirelli P Zeros that time (!!)...went with Robin, Tut and others in May 2003 and managed 18 laps. OK so still a novice but loved it and would like the chance to try one more time before it gets shut forever.

All the best and stay in touch if you can bear the rubbish we post here half the time :-)

Hi Graeme!

C'mon! Don't hate me! Hate him :D I was only the driver.
Andreas, the new owner, is a top bloke. He used to run a classic car restauration shop and he is a perfectionist. The Elise will be kept is top conditon and will have a very, very good life.

Cheers, Joerg

Hi Robin!

Ringwise you are right! I had quite a frustrating Ring year in 2008 with many closures and few really good laps.
And when I went to the alps, I could not get hold of the Elise, since it was stored at TTE-Technics near the Ring and the gentelman with the keys was nowhere to be found. So I took the Bimmer - which makes quite a difference!
Even though I returned to and lived in Berlin between 2003 and 2006, I am now back and firmly installed in Switzerland again. So if you (and the other ones on here too) head for the alps, make sure to make yourself heard before!

Cheers,

Joerg

Hello Campbell!

It is good to hear that you still enjoy the Elise.
If you plan to come to the Ring please let me know, I would love to take the chance to meet you again. And maybe we could even enjoy a glass of beer together ;-)
OTOH: When we went back from Edinburgh TomTom sent us down the A68 instead of pointing us towards the A1. We originally planned to leave quickly instead of taking the scenic route, since the ferry wouldn't be waiting. But anyway: We went down the A68 and decided to head for Newcastle at some point (A679?). And we liked the landscape and the views very much. So it is quite likely that I will return to Scotland for a holiday...

Don't forget to say hello to Lisa ;-)
Cheers, Joerg

Hello Ed!

'twas nice to meet you either! Hope to see you again some day, with a decent motor and preferably on twisty roads ;-)

I think I can keep you updated about the wellbeing of L60 LOT (if you want). Next things to happen: LHD conversion and generally a conversion into a piece of garage jewellery (NOT).

Oh and evreybody else: Thanks for the friendly welcome! :)

Cheers,

Joerg
