Newbie from Aberdeen........which one to go for?

Post by Aldo » Tue Aug 11, 2009 10:55 pm

Hi all, :D

I'm firmly on the hunt for my first Elise/Exige and am desperately trying to educate myself on all the various models available.

Hopefully you can help point me in the right direction and help me choose the right car to fit my needs, as my head is spinning!

Anything up to a N/A S2 Exige is within budget but I'm completely open to all other variants S1 or S2, which I think is half the trouble. I feel like a kid in a toy shop having just been given a fiver from his Granny!

The car will be well used on B-roads and am keen to get to a good few trackdays, possibly even considering Hillclimbing it.

So far I've driven my pals S1 (118bhp) a few times and also had a brief shot in a 111R down at Murray motors, but with so many variants I don't even feel close to being able to select just one.

I'm in the Aberdeen area so would be keen to meet up and a have a chat with anyone local who would be willing to talk cars for a bit.

Any advice will be much appreciated. I'm getting seriously itchy feet and fast running out of summer.

cheers,
Al.

S1 owners will tell you their car is best and to buy that one.

S2 owners will tell you their car is best and to buy that one.

Go and test drive a few and buy the one you prefer. :thumbsup

I've had an S2 Elise 111s (covered 20,000miles in 1 year) and an S2 N/A Exige (covered 7,000 in 5 months),
both are really good, but I've got to admit that the Exige does it for me :thumbsup

They are a lot of us from the Aberdeen/shire area with lots of different variants. Im sure you'll be inundated with offers of pax runs. Take up the offers and you'll get a better understanding of the strengths and weaknesses of each type (without having to travel down to Edinburgh all the time!). Whichever one you get though, you wont be disappointed! :thumbsup

We have an S1 Elise, but with Honda Civic Type R engine in it. Its not on the road at the mo but should be back in a couple of weeks so Im sure my husband would be more than willing to take you out for a run when its going again.

Good luck in your search! :thumbsup

Hi Jen, you're spot on. This will be by far my biggest spend on a car to date and intend on keeping it for a good while so need to try and pick the right one first time round.

Your S1 must be a little missile! The Honda V-tec on cam is an addictive thing.

This sounds perfect, unfortunately I'm down the road this weekend for the Touring cars at Knockhill. I may have to try and re-jig my plans for Saturday now, I'll be in touch if I think I can make it.

Don't suppose anyone is going to be going through to the BTCC too? It would be a fine opportunity to meet up.

Thanks again folks, and look forward to meeting a few of you soon.

Al.

I don't know driving in another way which isn't risky. Each one has to improve himself. Each driver has its limit. My limit is a little bit further than other's.

Hi Aldo, welcome to Scottish_Elises. I don't know if a converted Elise is in your considerations, but I have two S1's with Honda engines, one N/A and one S/C.

Advice would be to start off with a standard model, but a S/C Honda engine turns it into a Porsche/Ferrari performance equivalent.
