Just thought i'd put a wee hello in here after browsing the site for the last week. Hopefully get my 360 ferrari sold in the near future and looking for a cheaper toy to play about with, mostly a/b road stuff and might even manage a trip down to KH but its a fair treck from Thurso (15 miles from john o'groats!). I've had a couple of 996 carrera's and a turbo in the past but a change of job now means i've got less to play with so was considering a s2 elise or caterham of some sort and noticed that s2 exiges might also be in my budget. That's about it for now, sc.

Hi,

If you don't plan on much, if any, track work and you're going to keep the car a while, a 111R might well represent a good choice - roof off for B-road trips (weather permitting - bound to be some good sunshine up in Thurso though!) but modern engine and interior design (most stuff will work most of the time, which is good for a Lotus ).

The base model Exige is basically the same spec as the 111R, except for wheels, tyres and suspension - all of which are track focussed and can be counter productive on the road (R-tyres don't have much tread, cost a fortune and will chuck you in the hedges on muddy roads much more quickly than proper road tyres).

Actually I quite fancy the Elise S - less power than the 111R, but otherwise the same car, probably cheaper to buy, insure & run - I was half thinking about selling Egor and getting one of those after watching wheelie (Dave) cruise around France in august with his AC on whilst I melted in my car

Suggest you drive as many as you can before making any choice, but if you're not driving on track, I doubt a super-charger will represent good VFM

Looking at the prices on PH I don't think I'll be anything anytime soon - a 111R looks better value than an Elise S at present - go figure!

I doubt a super-charger will represent good VFM

I would have thought a super-charged version would be better on road than track due to all the extra low down power/torque rather than having to rev the R to 6k to find the power

It may not have mattered which! On Stelvio 1999, we drove across northern Spain with the roof on - and baked. Then drove across the south of France with the roof off - and baked

On circuit roof off mostly; baked. On the run down from Edinburgh to the channel tunnel, roof off; heater broken, wearing shorts and a jumper - froze my ass off. Put the roof on in France once it got hot; baked.

Mike - Super charger may be faster on the road but who on earth _needs_ a super charger to drive on the road? These cars are fast enough with n/a 140BHP to go as fast as is sane on the road and have plenty of fun along the way. Why would you cough up the extra 2-3K for a super charger you don't need?
