Hi

Post by johncam » Mon Aug 01, 2005 9:30 pm

Hi Everyone - had my Elise since the start of April but only just got round to joining up here. Seen a fair few of you out on the roads around Glasgow and have to say you seem a friendly bunch as I've had plenty of waves. Are there any runs planned on the west coast? - not that I have any objections to making a journey through to the east.

Cheers for now.

:welcome
Shug was trying to sort out slightly more regular west coast runs, don't know if it ever came to anything. If there aren't any planned and you fancy a run, just post in the meets section and you might get some people up for a blast.

Cheers

Si.

Thanks Simon - I'll give that a go.

Nice choice of car BTW. That's what I've got except its Storm Titanium.

Has the thermal layer in your soft top come away from the outer roof yet??

Cheers,

John

That happened after about 2 weeks :P
Got it repaired and it's been fine since then.
You weren't at the MMC track night a couple of weeks ago were you?

I've been told to book the car in to get the roof lining 'screwed' in place. Can't really complain - apart from the roof and the three radios the car is spot on and has exceeded my expectations.

I got a phonecall from MMC the Friday before inviting me to the trackday - unfortunately we were on holiday... decided to drive to Somerset via Swansea. Any excuse to get some miles in really as I've only done about 4K since I got the car.

Cheers,

Lol, 3 radios, I gave up after the 2nd one went bust and asked for a different model. Ended up with another Blaupunkt but a Frieburg this time. It's been fine so far. If yours is the standard Blaupunkt one, expect it to go again. I think it's a problem with the face-off not connecting properly (assuming it's the same problem as mine).

I take it you bought the car new?

I've got the Frieburg also - don't think they do the San Remo any more. It certainly works (other ones would not play CD's all the way through) but I don't think it will be long before I loose the rag fitting the face-off and snap the pivots. I think its a step backwards in terms of its design.

Car was almost new when we got it (4K since March 04 and it really was spotless.) We went in with the intention of ordering a new one but by luck MMC pretty much had 'our' car. We wanted red leather but the black has now grown on me. Think we made the right choice as if we had gone for the new one it would have only been delivered this month and we would have missed the best of the summer.

Cheers,

Agree aout the face-off. As soon as I move house and get myself a garage, the stereo will probably be left in as I never remember to take it with me. Even if I do remember I actually rarely use it anyway (thanks to my lovely sounding Larini zorst :D ).

Hope to see you at Knockhill soon. If you haven't done any track days before, the SIDC one in September is a good start. You'd have to be quick though, only 4 non-member places left!

Radio? pffft

Yeah - I'd made rumblings about more west coast runs - TBH, my life has gone completely mental recently, plus I've currently got the car up with the suspension in bits...

However, methinks some late summer Dukes pass BBQ action is called for...

I'll get on it as soon as the car's alive again! ;)

Radios and roofs have no place in sportscars.

That's for the exige

Nah, at £40, it would have been more silly not to have bought it!

Perhaps I should do another for sale add - 1 S2 short tail roof. Dealer price £800 - mail me for a bargain!

I like the idea of the Dukes Pass BBQ - can't believe I have not driven that road since I've got my Elise. Know it all too well as a cyclist.

I'm afraid I make good use of the Radio as I have the standard exhaust / induction setup on the car :( (although I'm going to try the 111S RHS tailpipe 'tweak' this weekend).

As for the roof - any excuse to get shot of it - much to my wife's disgust. She was especially not impressed when we got caught on the M8 in heavy the rain a few weeks ago - Result.

Simon - about the trackday... If you don't mind me asking - does your normal insurer cover you or do you take out special trackday cover?

Cheers,

John

The tailpipe tweak doesn't really do anything, what you need is a Larini exhaust :thumbsup

As for track insurance, you can get cover from some insurance companies (Lotus Esteem/AON, Competition Car Insurance, Autotorque) either as part of your premium or for an extra fee on top of your policy each time. CCI also do track cover only but the costs are prohibitive. I was quoted £200 for full cost cover and a £5k excess. Maybe my age (was 24 at the time) didn't help but I couldn't justify £260 per 2/3 hour KH session.

So I just do without like most other people.
