Buying an S2 Elise

Post by tayvallich0 » Sun May 16, 2010 12:40 am

After the 3 or more years dreaming, comes the reality, I am getting my first Elise (55 plate) next week. Anything I should particularly ask to be shown, explained? Any suggestions welcome. Thanks, looking forward to driving it on the west coast, hopefully to Italy in the Autumn and track days.

There's not a lot to them :-)

Make sure you have the code for the radio (if it needs one - mine doesn't, but not sure what radio is fitted to 55 models) and the code for the alarm system (used for resetting it/mating with new fobs I think).

I think that both of these should be recorded in the owner's book or thereabouts.

Also, make sure you have the monkey puzzle key for the security wheel bolts (and consider replacing them with standard wheel bolts, at least for the duration of your ownership - the tools are famous for breaking when you actually need them to work!).

Make sure you know which one is the water bottle for the windscreen and how to get to it (it might be in the engine bay for a 55 model).

Take your time learning the cars handling - wet/greasy/leafy/diesely (delete as appropriate) roundabouts are common causes of new-owner accidents.

Cheers,
Robin

Can't offer much more than what's already been posted, but definitely watch out in the wet at first.

I presume your user name means your from that neck of the woods. Perfect Elise country :thumbsup
I spent many a childhood holiday in Tayvallich. Hope it's not changed much.

Hi Duggie
thanks for taking the trouble to reply. You are quite right I am from Tayvallich, centre of the universe, glad you have such good memories. It is surprising how many people have been here for holidays and remember it so fondly.

I don't know driving in another way which isn't risky. Each one has to improve himself. Each driver has its limit. My limit is a little bit further than other's.
