I finally succumbed to temptation (again!) at the weekend and became the proud owner of a 2009 Lotus Elise SC in Magnetic Blue with two factory painted white stripes from stem to stern. Looks fantastic! The car's been fitted with a Larini Clubsport exhaust and a TRD airbox so it's no shrinking violet. This is my third Lotus, although it's been 33 years since my last one (one of the orginal Lots Of Trouble, Usually Serious varieties!) My first Lotus was a black Elan Sprint with Gold bumpers and 8" knock on Revolutions that had been used for drag racing at Santa Pod. A full race engine (170bhp) and a competition clutch with rubber doughnuts made for a pretty interesting daily commute from Fife to Edinburgh! After 18 months of happy but occasionally frustrating ownership, I swapped it for a +2S130/5 in full JPS livery. That one was mechanically standard and consequently much more reliable, but most weekends still revolved around working on the car. Great fun though.
The Elise is fantastic, and seems a really good compromise between performance, comfort and practicality. And it doesn't look bad either! I'm really looking forward to meeting up with some of you at a Knockhill trackday over the coming months and putting the car through its paces.
