Morning

Post by coullstar » Thu Sep 09, 2010 8:57 am

Morning folks. Just joined up as I'll be looking for an Elise fairly soon. Currently a VW man and have a Corrado VR6 at the moment but Im getting bored of VW's and need a change.

At the moment I think I'll wait till start of next year and was looking at S2's however is there really much of a difference between the S1 and S2's? It will be a second car used for fun, track etc so doesnt need to be uber reliable and I do like working on my cars so what are they like to work on i.e. changing brakes, suspension etc?

Also does anyone know this car? - http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/1976998.htm

Its a bit tarted up for me but seems fairly cheap considering the engine work.

Anybody in the Aberdeen area that would mind taking me out for a run to see what there like?

Welcome along to Scottish_Elises, especially as an other Aberdonian. Lots of us now in the area with every model of Lotus produced since 1996, so no problem with getting out for pax rides and checking out different models.

I live up the road in Old Deer and you would be welcome out in mine, but has it has a S/C Honda conversion it is not very representative of what you are looking for.

Cheers

I don't know of that car but it looks like someone's spent a bit on it in the past but I'm not a fan of the tat on it.... Mine was a bit like that when I bought it so I stripped it back to standard and started again... now it' covered in tat all over again lol but I think I did it a bit more tastefully than the skull valve caps and gear knob that came on it lol.... Looks like it could do with a good clean too... Good luck

Is it a rare colour? Also anything to look for at that mileage? I might go for a look on Friday night. I must admit I prefer the S2 Elises. Ive also see this one for sale locally but I dont like yellow cars http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/1960645.htm

What are they like on insurance? Ive got full NCB's and it will be garaged so shouldnt be an issue.

I was the same with yellow until I bought N3, as N1 is azure blue which is my favourite colour.

Good spec and low mileage though, my first Elise was a B&C 140 and had a fair edge over a standard car. It probably makes less than 160hp, but it was a good conversion and B&C are one of the best in the business.

Insurance isn't too bad actually. Best to go with a specialist company like CCI or Richard Egger so you get some trackday insurance included. :thumbsup

Deep Purple is one of the rarer colours but there are a few about. Mileage shouldn't be an issue as long as it has been regularly serviced. Go on condition rather than mileage. Probably the most important thing is that the chassis/ tub is undamaged as it can't be repaired. Suspension brakes etc are no more difficult to diy than any other car. AA parts and labour is a good back up to have.
Check the insurance section of the forum for list of insurers - CCI seems to be cheapest for most people and covers track days too I believe. If you have another car try Admiral for a multi car policy. I went with them to cover 2 cars less than we paid previously for one.

One question about that purple one. I take it the diffuser and rear wing are not Lotus parts? Are the just for show or are they proven to work? I could live with most of it to be honest expect the steering wheel and gearknob.
