New S2 135R owner in Bridge of Allan

Post by Brian C » Sat Sep 11, 2010 12:25 am

Joined forum a few weeks ago after agreeing to buy Kayfur's 135R,
Went along with Mark to charity track day a few weeks before that, and having really enjoyed my passenger lap with Mass in his Exige decided that I wanted to have a Lotus, although I was terrified about actually driving on a trackday myself!
Previous cars have included an MG Midget 1500, Astra GSi and MGF, but T've always regretted not buying a real performance sports car.
I expected to take a while deciding what to buy, however when Kevin's car came up for sale the opportunity to buy locally from a real enthusiast who has owned and used the car for the last 5 years gave me a now or never choice, so I decided to go for it!
It was really interesting following the 111S vs 135R thread on the forum while I was agonising about buying an Elise at all.
However my test drive re-assured me that the way Kevin had the 135R set up made it fine for road use as well as track use.
Tonight I finally managed to transfer the money to Kevin and the car is now in my garage; I know cos I only checked again 10 minutes ago!
So now I'm hoping to go on a Walshy trackday soon, and looking forward to taking part in as many SE events as family commitments allow!

Welcome Brian!

If you find you keep opening the garage door just to look at it, particularly after you've cleaned it...or ragged it silly over some great roads and it's still ticking-hot, that's OK. No medication required. Just another fix as soon as possible ;-)

The 135R sits in the very small subset of ultimate Elises ... which for me are ...

Plain original unmolested S1 just as Thompson and Rackham created it
S1 135 Sport
S2 111S
S2 135R
340R (technically it's still an Elise)
S1 with a Honda in it (yes really...if done professionally and tastefully)

...so welcome to a particularly exclusive club. Have fun.

Good to see that Kevin's car has stayed in the family Brian, hope that you get to enjoy it as much as he has.

His smiling face is very rarely missing from KH when we go there.

Congrats Brian and Welcome to SE. Still getting to grips with my recently purchased 135R, and seeing how it handles in the wet it is quite surprising how much grip the 48's have in the wet, but nothing a damp Walshy day wouldn't help reassure me where the limit is!

Brian, I am so glad you've actually bought a car I know very well. Kev is a very good mate of mine. It's a real nice 135R to learn to drive on and off track. I remember you laughing all the time during the laps and telling me you "have to get a Lotus now!".

When you are ready to drive it on the track, I am more than happy to come out with you for a few sighting laps.

Come to the SIDC trackday on the 18th for a banter as there will be a few SEers there.

See you then.

I don't know driving in another way which isn't risky. Each one has to improve himself. Each driver has its limit. My limit is a little bit further than other's.

Hi Brian,
hope you're still enjoying the car as much as you appeared to be yesterday :thumbsup :D
I'm sure you'll love driving it as much as I have. Let me know when you're available for a tour of the local routes.

Congrats on the purchase Brian & welcome to SE.
I was fortunate enough to own a 135R for 18mths & used to find myself distracted (posted-missing), each time I 'popped in to the garage for something from the freezer'.
Must be over 2yrs since I sold her & I still miss it.
Kevins car looked a cracking buy, especially with the spare wheels & hardtop... think you got a good one there. Keep it shiney side up :thumbsup

Kevin.. nice looking avatar :D
