Hi

Just though I would say hello
Not an Elise owner just yet, looking to get an S1 before the end of September.

Hello Andy, and welcome along.

Are you a member of any other Elise or Lotus communities?

Searching for an S1 will be entertaining but ultimately very rewarding if you have done your homework :-) Lots of advice (most of it useful!) from the guys and gals here. Just ask away...and also do some searching across the forum, because many people before you have asked for the low-downs on used Elise purchases already and fair wealth of checklists has developed.

Thanks for the welcome
Got about 10k to spend, so looking for a tidy 1999/2000
Having spoken to a few people, trawled the net and read a few books I have a fair idea of what to keep an eye out for (foot well corrosion, ball joints etc)
This has been 3 years in the making thanks to kids and stuff, so can’t wait to get my hands on one

Welcome along. Depending on whereabouts it is, you might find one of the guys happy enough to take a look at cars if you see one you fancy (or there's a good chance it's known, if in Scotland) Amazing what a bit of previous experience looking at them can throw up.

Enjoy when you get it :thumbsup

Welcome to S_E Andy, obviously a man of discerning taste in deciding to go for an S1.

tut

ps I am biased of course, but we have to keep the S1 going, it will be a future Classic.

Cheers Shug
Probably get one down south to avoid the inflated prices in the North East.
Cant beat a new car road trip :O)

Andy, spend £9k which will still net you a brilliant S1, and keep £1k for your first year's maintenance / trackday fund (delete as appropriate!)

Even lower mileage cars are going to need some TLC I reckon.

I've had a mostly original S1 from new in 1999, now with 94k on the clock, so will be happy to play back my experiences and also show you round it any time if that helps. However I'm in Central Scotland so maybe a bit of a distance away. Take no notice of Tut's relatively un-original yet infamous brace of S1s ;-)

You are about to have a whole load of fun (and the odd frustration, mind).

yep, we can compare front clams, wobbly ball joints, wishbone bush play, and sticking rear calipers. That's just for starters :-)
