Hi from a Fifer without an Elise - Now got a S2 :-)

Hi,
I've finally decided its time to get an Elise. I've wanted one since the S1 was launched and almost bought a couple of times over the years. Looking now for a S2 as a weekend toy, and to keep my hand in on the mechanics.
I was thinking about a Caterham, but realistically too impractical for SWMBO to come on days out as she complained about feeling too exposed. Considered a Boxster, but need a big sinking fund as a reserve in case of problems. At 6' I don't fit in Jap roadsters and MGs. The Elise ticks all the boxes.
I may know a couple of you folks from my involvement in motorsport as a MSA Scrutineer, often found at Knockhill and Doune. Good to see Tut is still as PC as ever :-)

So if anyone lows of a 1/2 decent S2 up for sale at about £12k max, I'll be interested

Hi, welcome to the group. There are few S1/S2 on pistonheads in your price range ... some look quite cheap, actually - perhaps the time of year - and of course that's what they're asking, not what they'll get. This is the time of year to buy as nobody wants an elise in this weather!

Cheers,
Robin

Thanks Robin. Not many cars in Scotland unfortunately, so may have to travel which can waste a lot of effort.

You will be inundated with help and advice once you start posting up cars that take your fancy.
If the car has Scottish provenance it will undoubtedly be known within the forum community

Don't rule out the Boxster either as it's a proven all rounder and handy on the track

:cheers

I see you've got a Boxster. Some nice ones about in budget, but I'm concerned about running costs. At least with an Elise, you can DIY most, unlike the Boxster where the engine is well hidden. Not ruled them out yet

Apart from tyres , running costs are not too deadly.
End of year trackdays shredded 4 tyres and a set of pads at £1300
Smaller 17" rims would half that cost

Engine shouldn't need fettled apart from an annual service at an independant

:cheers

Good to see you looking for an Elise, and love the nick name, but can not place you from that.

You probably remember N1 TUT or maybe N3 TUT as well, driven by a bare footed War Pensioner, in fact you probably got the Blue Book out to show that I could not drive in bare feet, but fortunately they had never covered that, so it was always a laugh when I was pulled over.

Have they put a clause in yet in case I may decide to return to go for the Sprint Championship that I missed out on in 2005?

Don't be swayed by all this talk of Porsches. It's a Lotus you want :thumbsup

Hi Tut, I remember the blue Elise with the slightly pebble dashed clam, Honda powered IIRC and knew you had another one. You might recognise me from the profile pic I've stuck up.
Your bare-footed exploits certainly caused discussion but I was one who recognised the Regs didn't strictly prohibit it in those days. I think that may have changed but I'll check and get back to you.
Last I heard from you was when you were being a pest in Foresterhill :-) Good to see you're still as bad.

Hi Renny, I may have met you at Doune last year, can't remember who scrutineered me as I was too nervous worrying about going up a damp course

Good luck with the search :thumbsup

Welcome along, plenty of knowledge on here so don't be afraid to ask :)

I'll sadly be selling my S2 111s in a month or so due to a little ones arrival, it will be over budget but then budget creep is part of the fun if car buying!

All the best :)
