Newbie... ish

I joined this forum nearly a decade ago for some track day banter with no intention of ever owning one of those plastic bathtubs with engines. Along the way I have made a lot of great friends and had the odd adventure or two :D . Looks like you all have finally worn me down and I have seen the light, no more talent masking for me, except in Time Attack.

I think the major turning point was when AndyG kindly loaned me the NA Exige S2 for the Spazz trip. It was an absolute hoot and in comparison to something like a Subaru, cost next to nothing to run. I would guess that if I was to do the same trip in an Impreza, my tyre bill alone would have been over £2k. My old Time Attack car had been sitting around in bits for nearly 2 years and when I am lucky enough to get to drive someone else's car in the series, there was not a huge amount of point building it back up again. So I put the car up for sale and it has gone to a lucky new owner in Ayrshire.

I have just purchased an S1 from that well known lover of sensible driving with bags of mechanical sympathy, AndyG, I think there must have been some alcohol and NLP involved in the selling process. The car is Andy's old race car and in need of a bit of TLC but is mechanically sound as it has been looked after by Craig from MMC. I do love a shed though and have big plans for the car. For me, the journey of making the car into something interesting is half the fun.

The short term plan for the car is to go for a honda engine for reliability and a bit more power and do a bit of proper racing. In the long run, I would love to do an Elige conversion on it as I have always had a major thing for S1 Exige's

Its' going to be an exciting process :D

Shed! :D

Just kidding, great car, and the only one in Scotland in that range of colours. Congrats. Time for a signature update! :thumbsup

Great news Scott, S1 with a Honda fitted later will do you nicely.

A pity you were not buying earlier, you could have had N3 for £4.9K. It also needed some TLC, but for less than £3K spent on it you would have had a 300hp S/C Honda for £8K. The Insurance Company paid out £18.5K.

Greame - your right, it is a shed, just the way I like em! I did laugh out loud at it being the only one in Scotland in the range of colours. I'll make sure I keep the unique colour scheme [SMILING FACE WITH OPEN MOUTH AND SMILING EYES]

Tut - that would have been the bargain of the century

Anybody on the Forum could have bought it Scott, but nobody did so it went to SELOC.

Everybody took the p*ss out of her, but the view that most drivers saw was of her exhaust pipes.

That's because being behind you is probably the safest place to be

Back on topic... nice work Scott. The Elise/Exige definitely does give an amazing amount of fun per pound.

I'm at the opposite side of the scale when it comes to building and tinkering but you're in good company here.

The runs and trips are more fun than the track days. Hopefully we'll see you out in the new motor soon.

Gary.

Great to see you in a Lotus, will it be ready in time for Frolic ?

So that's another white car I'll have to scan my mirror's for now, the fast approaching Andy, Ali and yourself I'll have to get of the way rapidly :D

Cheers

Nice one Scott and all the same reasons as I succumbed to the lotus brand. I still can't believe after 2 dry trackdays recently I've only use 2 or 3mm of tyres and 1/3 of the brake pads. And it was so much fun too.

Look forward to reading about your mods.

:welcome

Now go easy with the S1, they can be a bit twitchy, especially in the wet. Plenty of newbies have lost it on roundabouts having been caught out by the power compared to what they are use to. Look forward to seeing it soon. :ROFL

to be fair,

The last time i saw the little yellow shed all i saw was smoke, exhausts, headlights, smoke, exhausts, headlights, smoke, exhausts, headlights, smoke, exhausts, headlights, smoke, exhausts, headlights, while i slowed down to avoid hitting it as it spun up the main straigh at knockhill.

:damnfunny

Congrats Scott - good little car Andy's S1, i have enjoyed many a sideways moment in that :thumbsup

looking forwards to seeing it progress.

It's probably the car I've owned longest!!
Delighted it's going to a home of similar rough love values!

I seem to remember wielding a spanner on this many moons ago - I'm sure whichever bit I bolted on has long fell off and been replaced... :P
