Newbie In Ayrshire

Post by marcoos_1 » Sat Jun 06, 2015 11:14 pm

Hi, Newbie here in Ayrshire. Just bought an S1 111s from a friend. I reckon it'll be needing a load of work but it's never been smashed or pranged which is good. Seriously considering a Motorsport Elise Conversion and looking at engine conversion options as well.......so brace yourself for some stupid questions!!!

I've had an S2 111 before for 3 years as my daily driver and I've currently got a Marlboro Stratos replica and a Gulf GT40 rep that I built.

Seems like a really friendly forum so looking forward to getting started...

Welcome to Scottish_Elises, as you say a friendly lot that should be able to answer any of your questions.

When you get settled in we would love to see some pics and details of your cars, your self built Stratos and GT40 sound very interesting.

Thanks to all for the welcome.....I'll attempt to post a pic of each here. Pic of GT40 was taken down at the show at Stoneleigh....the Stratos pic was taken whilst letting it cool off after a thrash through the New Galloway Forrest.....hopefully this works..

Cheers...hopefully you'll get the chance. They're both up and running and get driven as often as I can. The Stratos just did a hard 950miles over the bank holiday weekend and never missed a beat.....been a great wee car to be honest.

Can't wait for the S1 111 project to arrive......been researching all sorts of different ideas, contacts and bits and pieces for what I might be doing with it. I've bought the car blind from a friend....so really need a good look over it...no doubt a few horrors lurking. I know it's been a good car for him though and he's had it from about 2000miles.

I know it has a strange engine issue whereby at 4000rpm he says it drops to 2 cylinders and wont come back to normal until the ignition is switched off and back on again? I'll post this up in another thread though...

Also in Ayrshire, also have an S1.

The cylinder issue sounds like it may be HT/dizzy cap related.

Cheers Woody....you're only a few miles from me! I was at a stag do in Dundonald yesterday....still recovering...

Cheers rossybee.....they are cracking looking cars...a shape unlike any other really. It's running a Guy Croft tuned 2.0l twin cam with a supercharger. Sounds great on full chat. A while back I bought an Alfa cloverleaf race engine but I fell in love with that supercharger whine and I never fitted it...

Ah, the lovely twin cam. Had a turbo version in my Integrale - great, tuneful engines :thumbsup

Yeah, it's a great wee engine...just seems to love being rev'd.....and rev'd......and rev'd!! It was running injection and an Emerald ECU at one point but it was all wrong. A few calls to Guy Croft, out with the engine and down to him with a new twin 40 and a set of cams....back into the car....goes like stink and has never missed a beat. Brilliant!

No doubt I'll see you about some time then. Didn't realise Dundonald had any Stag do venues :o

Remember seeing an S2 locally a while ago, haven't seen your Stratos around but have seen the Alitalia one in Troon. One of my favourite all time car shapes 8)
