A warm welcome, Jon.
You are based in Elise heaven up there. I think if I had the pick of any roads in the UK, and a chopper to airlift me and the Elise (also an S1, 99 vintage, owned from new...I share your live-the-dream angle!) then I'd start from Inverness. Tore roundabout, up to Ullapool, on to Lochinver (pies), Achmelvich (camping), on round the north for a bit, down through Altnaharra to Lairg, back up to Laxford Bridge, down to Ledmore Junction and on to Lairg again, Bonar Bridge, Struie Brae etc etc. Then perhaps up to Garve and out round Gairloch for dessert
We try to get to Achmelvich or Clachtoll for a "Campaganza" weekend most years (see Meets for some history and pics) but didn't manage this year sadly. Criminal. Watch out for that next year though.

Must be in the air, my mother is from Yorkshire as well, been up there a bit more than 8 years though!

Size wise it's fine mate. Congrats on the car - was I reading somewhere else that it's Rich Humbles old car?
An SEer till he moved South. Last I heard he had an Esprit that he had stuck his own fuel injection on and had done quite a lot of updating to. Ex Airforce ground crew and did a lot of spannering on that Elise - was in really good order the last time I saw it - when we fitted a ported head onto it. Not sure what spec it'll be now, but has been well looked after in an earlier life, so you'll have a good one.
Actually - if you stick up a photo of the engine bay, we could see if it still has the alloy plenum I sold him off the project engine for the old Shugmobile!

Unless it's been returned to standard at some stage, you might have something that has a bit more poke IIRC Rich ported a spare head and we fitted it in John Reid's driveway - timed up beautifully (initially with a brass rod and vernier caliper arrangement, subsequently finessed with a proper dial gauge setup) and ran well. It's entirely possible a standard one has gone back on in the intervening years, but worth a wee photo of the bay to see if there's any identifiers that it might still be on there. Think there was a set of 270 cams went in at the same time.

Doesn't look like any work done, documented anyway to suggest it has gone back....just getting pics onto photobucket, will post in a mo....

I'd imagine if it went back to standard, it'd not have the VVC plenum on there - any shots of the exhaust tops? I think Rich put a decent manifold on there too.
Slightly lumpy idle? Bit of popping on the overrun?
If it's the same setup (and it does look like it) then it's been a stellar run for it - that's probably the thick end of 10 years that's been a tuned engine. There's a build thread somewhere in here for it from memory. Rich H was his username - albeit he's still high on the all time poster list, so it might be a search to find the thread!

So...if i took the cam cover off...I would be able to see what cams were in her...take it Piper are marked in some way? Or is this not a good idea...lol.....pulls like a wee train...much more poke than I was expecting. I have a 300 bhp Scoob and the Elise pulls with as much gusto as that....and is much, much more engaging to drive...Jon

You'd need to replace gaskets, so probably not worth it. It should be running a solid 140-150 bhp with the cams and headwork, plus zorst. Maybe more if it's a good-un - never got dynoed to my knowledge as it retained the standard ECU so nothing to map.
I've actually mentioned to Rich through Facebook that the car has turned up, so he might well pop past and be able to give you some history. He did sell it a long time ago now though.
Actually - a quick check would be to take the cambelt cover off the R/H side of the engine. If it has fancy alloy vernier camwheels on there, must be the same head.
