I finally got one! (Edinburgh based)

Post by StuC » Mon Aug 19, 2019 6:07 pm

Hi all,

I’ve been on here for a few months and had some excellent advice on the general forum.

I thought I’d post in this section now that I have an Elise (again after some time away) and no longer feel like an imposter!

I picked it up at the weekend from Will Blackham, whom I would highly recommend if anyone is on the market. After a great drive north, I love the wee thing already.

Initially I was torn between another S2 and an S1. I had an SC a few years back, then an S2 Exige S more recently. Dom kindly took me for a blast in his sport 135 and that pretty much swung it for me. I thought at first I wanted a 111s but their rarity and, in many cases, crazy asking prices put me off in the end.

So here I am. My car is a standard S1 in beautiful nautilus blue with cream interior. It’s got a hardtop and few sensible upgrades like nitrons, alu rad and a stainless exhaust. The cat will be going back in before I go deaf. It’s been well looked after but also used and enjoyed enough that I’m not worried about continuing to do so. I previously had a low mileage Z3 M Coupe and I told myself that I’d never buy another “investment” car again.

Plans to start with include a visit to Craig for a service and quick inspection to make sure all is as tip top as I think it is. I’m also thinking about changing the wheels back to silver as I think their current colour - black - just looks a wee bit lost with the darker paintwork.

I’m looking forward to meeting some more of you and getting into the lotus community, something I should have done last time round!

Here we go - edited to add photos. Just a couple of phone pics I took on my way home.

Hello Stu,

Good to see you that you got a car and hopefully see you sometime. Give Dom or Ian a shout and they could escort you along to the run and lunch stop in Killin in October.

That’s the one. I tried to upload a picture on here but for some reason it wouldn’t let me. Will have another go.

Hi Stu,

Your Elise looks great, love Nautilus, beautiful colour. Your love for the S1 will grow and grow, an absolute drivers car.

Enjoy and have fun.

Cheers Graham

Congratulations - looks great.

Hope to see you around. I've started commuting into Edin city centre in my Evora reasonably regularly to get more use of mine but rarely if ever see another Lotus, so hope to see this being used and out and about! :thumbsup

Saw that one on Will's FB page and thought it looked great. l always liked Nautilus blue.

As for putting the cat back on to quieten it down... what air filter is it running?
Mine is pretty loud (not as loud as some!) fitting a cat didn't quieten it down as much as I'd have thought.
I put it down to, probably the open K&N cone air filter, and perhaps big bore manifold.

Welcome Stu, that looks mean in Nautilus Blue and with that stance on the Nitrons.
Yep it's good to have a car that you can use and enjoy and not be too precious about, good choice :)
Servicing wise I really rate Dreadnought garage in Callander but that's a trek for you perhaps.

Thanks everyone. The lunch stop in October sounds fun.

Corranga - it is a K&N. I’ll see what happens with the cat back on. I do like the noise, it’s just my ears were ringing a bit after my long journey north at the weekend.
