Christmas comes early.

Newbie here in Westhill Aberdeenshire, just acquired Elise R. Changed across from S2000 which was great but a bit uncommunicative. I previously had an S1 for 2 years back in the olden days when they were still new.

First requirement, replacement tyres!

from not too far away.

I remember finding a huge difference when I changed the tyres on my old Elise.

Hello,

I am just around the corner from you in Elrick. :welcome

Nice looking Elise you have there. Remember and get your geometry checked too along with some new tyres. My old Elise felt miles better once it was adjusted.

Hi

Are you going to put winters on it? Snow must be coming soon!

Welcome to the forum.

Cheers,
Robin

P.S. Nice colour - not everyone's cup of tea, but I think Elises look best in bold colours (says the man with a black Elise :-)).

Thanks for all the welcomes, appreciate it.

Steve, good idea on geo, is there anywhere in particular round here you’ve used? Always worried they might just make it worse!

Robin, yeah, I like a bit of colour in my life, enough of the grey! I did get very close to winters as I do intend to use it and I do like winters. But I have the original wheels and was not convinced by 195/50s on 5.5J - not to start with anyway. And wasn’t ready to buy new wheels yet. So went with AD07s, current ones are 2.5 years old and 3.5mm, hopefully new ones better. I have another car for bad days. My thought is if not good then I can still try winters and keep AD07 for summer. Do you use winters?

Simon

Simon,

James Hall uses his Cup250 all year and has winter tyres that he uses. I will give him a nudge so he can let you know what he prefers.

I usually get Craig Moncrieff to service my car and any additional work, but he is down in Edinburgh. Brian uses the garage out at Glenkindie in Strathdon but unsure who to recommend in Aberdeen.

Hi Simon, congratulations and welcome to the local fold of lotus ownership in Aberdeenshire. Look forward to seeing you out and about.

As Steve mentioned I’ve got a full set of secondary wheels with winter tyres on. I’m running decent Continental TS winter tyres and they are brilliant. Running them for 5yrs now each winter as I use my car all year round. Despite 5yrs of use they are hardly worn and still good for more yrs use.

From my perspective the winter wheel set is a must and totally transforms the car from nervous and slippy to confident & planted on those -3 degree 4-5am starts to the airport. Also surprisingly good in snow too! Other than clearance on deeper stuff is problematic.

So recommended from my side of daily in winter months.

You are tempting me back to winters! I do like them for the unfeasible grip you get in unlikely conditions. heh ho, I'll start with new AD07's and see how I get on. I have another car for the -3 airport runs! Are they 195/50 on TD's you have? That's a very nice car.

Tyres arrived today and I removed wheels for fitting Friday. Car history would suggest 4 AD07's bought May 17 and two (only?) fitted June 17. However current tyres are 2012 rear (might fit 2017 purchase if unlucky?) and 2007 front.

I expect the new ones might be an improvement...

Apologies, just realise you will have the wider tyres / wheels from new. Ignore me.
