servicing question

Post by Pat02 » Tue Jan 17, 2006 4:04 pm

Hi,
just found this website (could take a while to read everything). I am looking for advice to stop me spending too much on servicing (if possible).

Live in Edinburgh, have an S2, Type 23, had it now 1 year ('03 plate). It needed a service when I bought it, so put it into the main dealer, cost me £320. It's coming round again and I was wondering is there an alternative to the main dealer. If not, should I be supplying any of the parts they replace on the service. Or am I dreaming and this is the cost I have to pay for having my toy? At least once I hear, I will know and stop worrying that my ignorence is costing me money.

By the way, after this first year, just how much fun is this car, how stunning is it to look at. I would also like to thank my wife for passing her test first time, then buying her own car, which allowed me to buy this, ya gotta luv her.
Pat

Hi Pat, welcome to the forum. :welcome

Not wanting to upset/offend Pauline from MMC, but there are threads with similar queries.

In the past there have been two recommendations (at least) in the 'East', one was Brunty in West Calder, but apparantly he has stopped doing service work :?

There was also a recommendation for a garage in West Linton, a small family-run affair. I'm sure somebody will post up info, or a search might find it.

Cheers

John

Top missus!

The automatic reaction would be to advise you about Brunty - but we hear he's stopped servicing :( I'm trying to find out what's happened with him...

Anyway - do you know what service is due? (A,B or C) An A service is basically an oil change and check over, which any competent mechanic can do (making sure he knows about jacking points, etc.)

There is Falkland in Glenrothes - not sure if anyone on here has used them and can give personal reccomendations?

Welcome along to the madhouse, by the way - hope you can make it out to a meet sometime soon. Keep an eye on the meets section....

Hello and welcome!

It must be you I passed on the M8 one day just before buying my elise, as my mate used to have a type 23 and was told of one other in the Edinburgh area.... if you`re a big guy with specs then it was!

My mate with the T23 took it to Falkland Performance in Glenrothes and said they were spot on both with servicing and prices, think he paid about 140ish for the A service.

Hi Pat

I've had some work done by this place, the guy who runs it has had an S1 and an S2 and also an old Elan, hence he knows about Lotus and he is resonably priced.

Welcome Pat, I think I've seen your car a few times in UGC car park?

Servicing at murrays is pretty expensive I hear a C service is circa £1000 a bit steep considering other Lotus dealers in England are around half that. :( but they do have their overheads and last service I got from them my car was returned nicely valeted. :D

I've been recommended Dan in newcastle many times I hear he is great.

Superb, spoke to Falkland in Glenrothes, cost about £188 inc vat, so just about half price, from main dealer. Booked myself in, cheers guys.

Oh, the boy did say, Falklands may be tying up with Lotus, to become one of their service centres. So costs may go up, although he did say, not to the same level the main dealer charges.

I now have to make sure not to spend too much time in here.

cheers....
Pat
