Well, tried bedding in the pads again yesterday and they're still squeaking. Is it worth applying more copper grease or do I just have to live with this?
They seem to squeak more under gentle, standard braking and don't really do it when braking hard. Problem is, I can't break hard when I'm driving around town or just on my way to work!

HI Dezzy
The issue is that you need shims for the pads to stop/reduce the squeaking. A bit of copper grease on the back may help a bit, but 42's aren't the quietest.
I'd jump on them a few times first though

you might fiond they have a set - Elise parts have them also - they actually give you them FOC is you buy a full set. I've never used them though - on the 111r i braked so rarely that it wasn't an issue - the RLC makes so much noise a squeal from the brakes is the least of my issues

RS4-2's and RS14's all squeal when they are relatively new . . . they will stop in their own time . . . I haven't yet found a sure fire way of stopping the squeal . . . I'm sure it's not a betting in issue.
I took my Elise to the pyrenees a few years ago with a 'bedded in' set of RS4-2's fitted and nearly had a mental breakdown after 3 days driving . . . the squeal was unbelievable . . . then it just stopped . . .
Conversely I have a set of RS14's on the Elise and apart from the odd squeal at almost 0 mph and very gentle breaking they have been almost silent . . .
I'm sure it's a heat cycle thing . . . but simply following the procedures for bedding is has never worked for me . . .
