Do new belts squeak a bit and a hurricane suck?

Post by tenkfeet » Sat Jul 21, 2007 5:11 pm

I will admit I am a bit paranoid but having changed the timing belts and alternator belt there is a very faint squeak , like you would hear if a belt was not quite running true . Is it normal on cars ?

Also I have noticed when I jab the throttle very fast there is an all mighty suck from the hurricane (above the normal woosh) which I dont recall happening before , do any hurricane user notice this ?

Other than that car runs fine and I only have one bolt left over from the rear clam off, its a longish M6 very clean like a longeron bolt which are all there :o suggestions on a post card.

Is it a 10mm hex head? I cannot think where that comes from.

The squeak might be because the alternator drive belt is too tight/too loose.

I assume it had an auto-tensioner which you replaced and then tensioned as per the manual?

The belt is a bit narrower than the pulleys and will align itself somewhere between the cover and the block, provided you have properly fitted the crank pulley.

Cheers,
Robin

Yes it is 10mm hex head . Fitted in the longerons (6), side scoops (2 ) , cabin / fwd clam (2 ) and ?????

I will slacken the alternator tomorrow see if the little squeak goes away.

It had a manual tensioner which I set as per the 90 degree method posted on SELOC. I will get our new Scottish specialist to cast an eye on it when I get time.

I am used to working on things a bit more precise , the engine set up is just strange.
