Techie query Re: my new exige

Post by Michael » Wed Aug 15, 2007 6:59 am

Warranty up very soon. Got a couple of Qs...

Robin, you said to me about brake pedal travel...anyone else too, if you know....there is a fair bit...(didnt drive it at the test drive...several reasons) . when it bites it bites (Pagids ), but theres lots of travel...H+T much easier on the elise i had due to proximity of pedal heights.

Chatter in all gears...especially on lift off. Didnt hear this at test drive. never really drove gently for long enough to hear it (larini ).

May sound like glaring oversights, but there are some things not worth arguing about in a private sale.

Engine sounds mint though - gentle whirr at idle and nothing worrying at full chat.

Need to worry/make warranty claim?

Cheers boys

Its a simple adjust apparently (Assuming its an S2 yota car)

Check the gearbox oil level. No idea how as I assume its a Yota.

Ali (now SLS) reset all my pedals to factory setup, then adjusted them and that did make it better; but my 55 exige never had a great brake pedal.

A lot depends on your driving style - I don't H&T unless on track, at which point you should be pressing the pedal as hard as you can anyway, and then H&T will be easier. If you're trying to blip the throttle on country roads or around town, just don't bother ...

Cheers,
Robin

I do H&T all the time, just because it makes it an automatic action - one less change to track driving and one less thing to be thinking about when you're being last of the late brakers....

Sure - lots of people do the same - most of them fail to brake hard enough when on track ;-)

Very reassuring guys!!

Great...

So is gearbox chatter okay would you say... its not wild, but i can hear it resonating a little out of the gearknob in all gears.

I am blown away by the feel of completeness that this car has. Yes, it pays for it in weight, to have lil toys and AC etc.....but a cup holder  and a lil central locking button internally  love it!

The second cam is just heaven...and not too violent either i feel!! Its gonna be a wee while before i proceed close to grip/handling limits. Thing is it just doesnt matter as much as it did...its just great to be driving it.

I don't know how much actual gearbox chatter you'll hear at the gearknob, because they are connected by cables, the knob isn't direct into the gearbox.

....phoned Dan The Man today and he has really reassured me about a lot of stuff. Got under the car as well today. Zero oil visible and the oil inside was as clear as watter - not the Clyde stuff, but Loch Lomond stylee.

My brake pedal had lots of excess travel but Ali (SLS) has just adjusted it and there is almost zero travel now, a huge improvement.

This link shows you how to do it:
