Seat Belt Bolts

Post by RDH » Sat Aug 18, 2007 8:00 pm

I've just had my seats retrimmed and between taking the seats in and getting them back - the seat belt bolts have gone "missing"

I've spoken to Ali at SLS- he's going to have a look for some ( thanks Ali!) but does anyone over this side of the country have any I can borrow till I get some ordered from Lotus? Just to save me heading to Edinburgh to pick up bolts! Anyone recently put in harnesses?

I just need the bolt that holds the Inertia reel to the seat. The catch is still attached to the seat!

Cheers
Rob

IIRC those bolts are used to hold the harnesses to the seat, I have all the bits I removed when I fitted mine, I'll try and rememebr to check when I get home.

There are three bolts in total:

(1) The bolt that holds the catch to the seat.
(2) The bolt that holds the reel to the bottom of the roll bar.
(3) The bolt that holds the shoulder pivot to the roll bar.

(2) + (3) are fairly normal bolts.

(1) Is a special bolt because it has a specially shaped head so as to fit into the eye on the seat frame. I think this is the one you have lost?

Please just order replacements - for the time being you can borrow one from a pax seat on another car so that you have a functioning driver's seat belt. If you order them on Monday morning from MMC they will have them on Thursday I think - if you want them in a hurry they can VOR them for you for £10 IIRC - speak to Darren - he can probably arrange to have them delivered to you instead of them - or call one of the other Lotus dealers (e.g. Christopher Neal or Brooke Kensington) - they may have them in stock (unlikely).

Cheers,
Robin

Thanks Robin, you are correct - the ones that have been lost are (1)
The plan is to order new bolts on Monday morning - I just need a functioning one to drive the car, my "borrowed" car is going in for some bodywork on Tuesday.

If I were to borrow a passenger seat bolt - would the lenders passenger seat have to come out to get the bolt out? ( i cant remember the clearance)

Pretty much, yes - I think you need at least to remove the two bolts on the right side of the pax seat to allow the bolt to clear the gear cable tunnel.

Isn't the clasp on the tunnel side?

Yes, and by removing the two bolts on that side of the seat you will be able to raise the seat such that the angle of the bolt allows it to clear the tunnel.
