leaking windows

Post by Trap 125 » Sun Aug 05, 2007 6:43 pm

There is a gap between the top of my window and the rubber it is supposed to meet. Is this normal? The car was sat out in the rain today and the water made its way through the gap and in to the car. Anything I can do or is it just part and parcel?

Hard to tell without a photo- post one up maybe?

Mine certainly leaks depending on the angle to the prevailing weather, but mostly its not too bad...

mine leaks but if you "lift up the window" before you shut the door it seals better.

you can adjust the window to get a better fit I just havent bothered ;)

Don't think it should be that bad. You may need to have the windows adjusted so that they wind up a little further.

I have a S1 and have noticed that the windows wind up a little further when the door is open than when it is closed. You could try that in the meantime.

As said above ........the door card comes off and the height the windows raise can be adjusted.
The angle of the windows can be adjusted by the 2 screws on the inside of the door that are visible when the door is open.
Not a big job but difficult to explain on internet.......
I'm sure Robin n co will explain better than me....failing that Ali SLS will do it in 10-20 min????
Meantime..........some tape to seal up while car is parked????

before going to that hassle, try opening the door and putting the window up then shutting the door. Sometimes part of the roof prevents the whole thing close snugly so putting tghe window up when the door is open sorts the problem :)

Orrr if you want a lot less hassle - as i did with the same problem - take some double sided tape (the thick stuff thats about 3/4mm thick) stick it all the way along the seal and then stick black electrical tape over it...

No one will ever tell the difference and its all you need to fill the gap.

It's worth getting them adjusted, Ali fixed mine and the wind noise has been reduced dramatically and the windows don't sound like they're going to fall out now when you shut the door.

I have an S1 and the windows leak as well but only at the very front where thre soft top roof corners over hang a tiny gap at the top of the windows. Is this common? I don't think that adjusting the window height will solve this. I was thinking of just using a shower cap to solve the problem.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

My windows have started pissing in water but the window seems tight :?

Worth trying to adjust them?

I'm another with the S1 problem. I found that duct tape does the trick when you head off on holiday and don't care what the car looks like, then nail varnish remover is nice for taking the sticky marks off the window ;)

My solution so far has been to position the soft top more over the drivers side so it's the pax that's wet. I was all set up to adjust but the allen key bolts holding the window winder together are a tad more round than i'd like, and I assume this has to be removed before the door card can be :(
