s1 windscreen fitting - glasgow where to buy

Post by s333fee » Mon Aug 20, 2007 8:05 pm

hi,

need to get a new windscreen fitted. The original now has developed a nice crack running mid level from the drivers side frame then down to the front of the car.

Where should I get this done, how much does it usually cost.

thanks

Its normally a £50 excess on your insurance . I would not like to think how much it would actually cost .

Clam needs slackened ( I think S2 certainly) so unless you are doing it yourself its a garage job . New Scottish specialist would be the man to ask .

Whatever you do, try to avoid the Autoglass guy that MMC Glasgow used (a while back, admittedly) I got 2 chipped screens (all bonded up, then taken out over the space of 2 weeks) before I got a good one.

thanks for info guys,

to be honest had no intention of giving to autoglass or similar have heard in the past about dodgy jobs, have had one myself wher 18 months after it they came back chainsg me for money for a winscreen on a car that was supposed tobe covered by insuance co who then did not pay up after authorising the works anyway. so plan to just pay it and get it done.

if SLS, JPS or other can do it happy to go wherever to get it done right, am planning on a front clam off job anyway so could do it here also

any more comments please feel free, have to get it fixed for S333FEE owner

RAC windscreens changed my rear window , guy doing the job was good but the company left much to be desired.

I used RAC in Aberdeen for my last car. Seemed fine until it rained a few weeks later and I got a pond in the footwell. They refused to believe it was the windscreen that was leaking. Ended up getting RAC Dundee to fix it - way better service.
I guess with all of these companies it depends on which branch you're using.
