Can't you strip out the VVC gubbins and just run lumpy cams ? I'm sure I read that somewhere (i'm sure I will get corrected if I'm wrong) and isn't the VVC head casting the same/very similar to a VHPD ?

Yes, piper sell a blanking/conversion kit for VVC that will allow you to run standard cams.

But you would need to change the ECU, 'cos the VVC ECU would be very confused :-)

Ross - never answered the other question - it costs about 25 quid to send the head down there if you just use a cheap parcel service & actually insure it for a reasonable value. About half that if you don't worry about the insurance.

You need to talk to rog about what it would cost to port the head - he would replace the valves for you at the same time - give him a call on 01945585381.
