Bulkhead Heat shield
My Heat shield is goosed.
Elise parts dont do them, and they say its a lotus part only. Any other ides where to get one?
Elise S1

Stew,
My understanding is that the heatshielding in this area is so critical, you are best not to skimp. So if it's Lotus only, I'd get on and do it before any damage occurs!
If it's just part of the exhaust manifold shielding, however, I think you can make up your own from that nimbus stuff or whatever it's called.
Fergus has done that I think.

What vintage is the car?
There are three types of heatshield that fit here.
The really early S1's (e.g. ed&ali's) are fitted with two large sheets of the same type of board-like material as is used to construct the manifold shield.
Not much later S1s (e.g. my old R-reg silver shed) had the rubber&tin foil mat stuck to the bulkhead instead.
Once you reach the down-and-under coolant pipe instead of the up-and-over variant, the bulkhead is a different shape with different mountings for the manifold heatshield; it still uses the foam&tin foil mat but it's a slightly different shape I think. Lotus may supply a single part to "fit" both bulkheads ... not sure.
The mat variant is a pain to peal off and replace - I did mine when the engine happened to be out and it still took a fair amount of time.
The board variant is pretty easy to replace in principle, but I'll bet it's a barsteward when you come to do it.
Actually you don't need the bulkhead insulation either way (it's for driver comfort) but you must have the manifold heatshields otherwise you set fire to the bulkhead itself, eventually.
A couple of sheets of nimbus would work as a heatshield bonded to the bulkhead in place of the either the mat or the board - *but* watch out for resonance and also there will be no sound insulation (the opposite probably - the Nimbus might make it louder).
Cheers,
Robin
