Tizzing - under the seats

Hiya,

Ive read about the underfloor tizzing from the passenger seat, and the heath robinson stylee solutions on this forum on more than one occassion.

Ive a wee problem in that both my passenger AND driver seats

have started tizzing, and whilst a half finished copy of EVO is a frustrating (in that ive not finished it)

but short term solution, I want to understand what is causing it, so that I can come up with something more permanent.

A thick (finished with) copy of my wife's "Cosmo" is firmly wedged under the passenger seat with great success

, but as the drivers seat is on runners, Im not having the same joy.

Can someone tell me why its happening?
and can anyone suggest a more permanent fix??!!

it may well be as simple as having some loose change or other pocket debris under there

Get a wire coathanger and have a rake around, it may well eliminate the problem.

As for other fixes, some people put bits of foam under the seat IIRC

De-cat. After a week your hearing detiriorates so you can't hear the tizzing...

Remove the seat and put some of that anti-slip matting underneath it. Also remove any loose change while you're in there.

Foam under the passenger seat is essential - in my car at least.
But the Elise has an uncanny skill of creating tizz from multiple sources. 9 times out of 10 I find the source, even when it sounds like its coming from inside, is the undertray.

I removed the seats and put in (hush, say this quietly as its against the Lotus ethos) soundproofing on the floor behind the cross member and up the firewall.

Solved all the really irritating rattles and is a silver finish so is almost un noticable.

And if I knew someone who's uncle had a friend who knew someone that could do with the aforementioned soundproofing,where would I...I mean he get such an item?

I cant remember which internet website I bought my roll from but do a search on Dynamat or sound proofing and you will get loads. I wanted to get a wide roll so I didnt have lots of joins but when it arrived I noticed it seemed identical to the bitumen roofing repair rolls that you can buy from a builders merchants. Its self adhesive, foil backed and stops the buzzing from the floor. Its what normal cars have stuck all over their panels. Doesnt add any perceivable weight, although you could always empty your pockets before getting it to compentate I guess.

Sheets of dynamat are like this but I used a roll about 10inches wide since its easier to apply.

Cow sh*t and straw in mine. (But it doesn't reduce the noise much though!)
