New Exige stereo - rubbish!

Post by dezzy » Tue Sep 11, 2007 9:44 pm

I used to have a Blaupunkt Woodstock DAB radio/cd/mp3 player in my Elise. It had a DAB radio, an SD card slot and would play mp3 CDs. It had loads of functions - you could change the colour of the display, it would display a clock when it was switched off, etc, etc . . .

The Alpine stereo in my new Exige has pretty good sound quality and plays MP3 CDs, but that's where it ends! It's crap! There's no clock on it!! I've never known a car stereo that can't display a clock! I'm not fussed about the fancy colours and stuff that the Blaupunkt one could do, but they could at least put a fecking clock on it!

Good old Lotus . . . let's build a car that doesn't have a clock anywhere on it and then put a radio in it that doesn't display the time!?! :scratch

Oh well, I guess I'll just need to use my watch!

May I direct you to the classifieds, where j33ama is punting a Blaupunkt one.....

If you get his, first dibs on your Alpine as the one I have doesnt even play mp3 cds, let alone do ipod input....

I'm with JJ...an opportunity for you there!

However, do you really need a stereo?!

Just the other day I put the front panel back on my vintage Pioneer of around 1997 era, for the first time in maybe 2 years. It worked, with the odd hiccup, but I realised I'd never really missed it! Except for the odd traffic report when driving in Englandshire.

Yup - I have one car out of three that has a stereo. I only use it to play loud music to avoid me falling asleep.

I'll let you guess which car.... :D

Not going to go the hassle of replacing it, as the sound quality is better than the Blaupunkt . . . just going to have to learn to tell the time on my watch again!

Music is really important to me and sometimes driving wouldn't be the same without it, so I do indeed need a stereo. At least it plays music! :D

Ken, very true! Time shouldn't matter when driving the Exige! 8) (apart from when I'm late for work!  )

Then stop trying to get good reproduction in a horrible acoustic environment and buy a decent set of earphones and a good quality player....

I was going to point out the irony of someone who makes a living selling music players advocating musicless driving  :leave

I don't even know what head unit my car came with... it didn't play MP3's so was ripped out first day for a Sony. It's sitting in a box in the garage somewhere.
I have no signature.

Yeah a clock is handy actually, that's what my head unit spent most of its time doing before I started forgetting to take it with me!

I think you can get neat wee digital clocks that self-adhere to the dash though...often thought of getting one of those.

Or better still...can one engineer a clock into the Stack? Could switch between the trip meter and the clock readout maybe ;-)
