Richie, are you sure you can get T1Rs, R888s or AO48s for the Elise wheel size? I didn't think you could. :?

If that's the case, your main alternative to the Bridgestones is the Yokohama AD07. It's a fantastic tyre and I'm sure it worked out roundabout the same price as the Bridgestones. IMO they are far superior to Bridgestones both in the wet and especially in the dry. They have far more grip in the dry.

I've recently had my first experiences of the AO48s with my new Exige. I've not had any problems yet in the wet. I just take it easy and keep the right foot light! I've not experienced standing water yet, but if it's as bad as people say it is, I'll either leave the car at home and get the train to work or just drive in the inside lane of the m'way at 50mph!

If I do have any butt-clenching experiences with the 48s, I'll probably invest in a set of T1Rs for the winter, but I don't have a second set of wheels. Will put them on for the winter and then stick the 48s back on in the spring/summer.

I know that feeling Neil. However they are amazing in the wet which makes up for them in the dry if you cant afford two sets of tires.

Is it best to swqap them out straight away or kepp them until they are goosed.

Guy says they look brand new.

Cheers

hi dezzy, yeah as far as i'm aware.

i've never looked at the ao48's but spoke to camskill and they can get either of the toyo's.

spoke to a guy up in cumbernauld (recommended from here) and he can get those sizes as well.

I'm going to be putting a new set of T1r's on my S1 in next couple of weeks. How long do you usually need to run them in for?

Cheers Steve

My next problem is the size of tyres to buy. I've looke at a lot of older posts and there seems to be lots of views on this.

http://www.scottishelises.com/phpbb/vie ... ight=tyres

The standard S1 sizes are 185/50/15 Front and 205/50/16 Rear. My car currently has Goodyear Eagle F1s (not seen them mentioned on forum) 195/50/15 Front and 205/50/16 Rear. John Reid in the post above mentions never to put the 195s on the front unless you have the 225 rear.

I've just been quoted prices for T1Rs for the same size as on the car £36 front and £61 rear.

Should I get 185s fitted at the front instead?

Hmm, i liked the F1 gsd3's and had them on my s3 for a while. In fact, i converted my entire office to them & everybody runs them now!!

Not tried them on an elise, but could be an interesting choice....

If you've got standard suspension, i'd be tempted to stick with standard sizes. The S1 is setup to be nice and neutral, where the s2 is deliberately understeery and benefits from bigger fronts IMHO. I'm no S1 expert however!!

As far as I know my S1 is completely standard except from the tyres that are on it. I was just going to go with the sizes in the handbook until I noticed that the tyres on the car were different. Totally confused at present. :?: Had a look on SELOC and someone seems to be having the same problem.
