Brake pads rattling

Post by bobnitro » Wed Jun 27, 2007 2:27 pm

Hi folks,

Changed to Pagids a few weeks ago. Now in the last week I am getting a clicking noise from the front wheels as they rotate. It is as though the pads are rattling about.

What's the craic?

What should i do?

Is there a good chance that it will kill me soon?

Bob.

It probably won't kill you.

You possibly have one or both of the anti rattle clips in the wrong way up. They should be "Y" shaped like this:

Also the Pagids backing plate is slightly small, so the pads move in the caliper. Buffer strips solve this for a few quid from MMC. You can get them from Eliseparts too, but I've heard bad stories about these ones falling off (and some support for them too, to be fair)

Not a problem, just a bit annoying.

Brake dust will eventually cure this... Stop polishing the calipers :thumbsup

Had exactly the same a month ago after fitting Pagids. Cured with a couple of the little buffer pads from Eliseparts. They may have fallen out and been replaced by brake dust by now, but have had no rattles since.

It's actually very easy & involves a kettle, some tea bags and an SE spanners session!

1 sugar and milk and I'll be glad to help :D
