S2 Elise - 120bhp - Cat By-Pass Pipe

Post by a4drk » Sun Oct 14, 2007 10:28 pm

I've got a Janspeed backbox on this & a pipercross airfilter.
I've also got a cat replacment pipe, but never fitted it.
Once the MOT is done next month , i'm going to get it fitted.
Has anyone fitted one?
Will it make it big difference?
How many BHP will it increase it by?

Yup, pretty easy all things considered... I needed an angle grinder to get the cat bolts off and a big spanner to get the post cat o2 sensor out. Can be done without even jacking the car though!

Oh yes! To your ears primarily, but the engine does breathe a bit better ;)

Probably about 2.362bhp but the noise makes it feel like a LOT more :D

I predict you will keep it for a year:

First 6 months: it will be fantstic, blatting around and finding tunnels. BAAAARRRRGGGHHHH!!!!

Next 3 months it's ok but your noticing the disproving looks your getting from old people and your parents.

Next 3 months notice you are struggling to hear people and its time for an MOT. :?

You will then refit the Cat but not quite get round to refitting the decat. :scratch

6 months later you flog the de-cat on e-bay. :thumbsup

Someone else starts the cycle... :D

I did :thumbsup

I have the next best thing, half my cat fell out so I have a semi-cat. Its probably all fallen out and bunged up the exhaust, but I can't be bothered to check yet....

It's actually a silenced cat.
Basically a s/s straight thro exhaust, so it should be quiter than the straight pipes.

Quel point?

It's not as if you're removing a restriction - change the manifold to see some increase in power. Silenced CRP won't do jack with a standard engine, of more use when tuned and you've changed the rest of the exhaust - like I say, at this stage, it's not the cat that's the restriction on power.

And you'll gas youself with the windows down...

Carbon monoxide poisoning is for woofters

I had to stop on one run due to fumes making me sick.

8 pints of Old Moorhens Shredded Sporran the night before didn't help though....

:) :D
I second Rich's points. Fun for a while but the noise gets tiring very quickly, makes it harder to give the car a sly boot without half of Scotland turning around to see what aircraft is crashing nearby...

No need for another lambda boss
Just get the mil light eliminator, or ask robin how to make one ;)

Yes thanks for that, just spat my coffee out on my screen, and in fits of laughter, all at the thought of half of Scotland turning around when you are giving it a 'sly boot' to see what aircraft is crashing nearby!!

Priceless!

Richard,
I've already bought the MIL resistor / wires thing from Elise parts.
I was led to beleive that you still needed the Lamba sensor in ?

Nope, it fools the other lambda if I under stand it correctly.

Might be wrong I have a clockwork and steam powered S1.

yup, there are 2 lambda sensors... First one is before the cat and is the one that the ECU uses to determine the correct fuel / air mix. The second one is the post cat lambda & this is only used to inform the ecu if the cat is ferked...

The MIL eliminator from eliseparts still needs the second lambda sensor in place - it just performs black magic to the output signal of it
