Need to replace my perished Pirellis

Post by ABZ-Elise » Thu Oct 18, 2007 7:26 pm

Had a look at my tyres the other day and decided they weren't looking to hot. They are starting to show small cracks on the edge of the tread, so I think I'll be replacing them shortly.

Whats the best everyday tyre to go for?...not super sticky

I did want to go for super sticky tyres but I don't think they would be great for everyday use and I still want to upgrade my suspension before I did that anyway.

Thanks.

For S1?

Toyo T1S. But hard to get now, so T1R nearly as good. Allegedly. Better be at any rate, I just ordered two from mytyres.co.uk!

Had a bit of a moment with used T1 R's last weekend  Probably due to very light drizzle making the road greasy.

Just something to bear in mind that these tyres don't automatically give you glue like grip in changeable conditions. I reckon I was doing about 60 around a bend that in the dry could easily be taken at 80 tuts without batting an eyelid. I would love to say there must have been diesel, but probably just to fast for the conditions.

AD07 is a great tyre, but a little will depend on driving style and what you expect. If you've been happy driving on hard old pirellis then AD07s will suit you sir. T1Rs works better cold and wet; AD07s like a bit of heat in them before they'll work at full grip and sometimes that can be hard to organise in wet commuting conditions.

When I say AD07 I mean the Advan Neova ;-) AD07 not available in S1 sizes I think ....

I would normally take issue on that re: cost, however the 10% discount mentioned after your post makes it a closer call ;-)

Anyway, Scotland is predominantly cold and wet so I am keeping my colours nailed to Toyos :-) Got them on our Golf Grand Tourer Blancmange and they're great. As Tony the Tiger would say. Though I have also proven that you can barely tell the difference whether or not your tyres are flat on our Golf, so tyre choice is perhaps irrelevant!
