high idle - new throttle body?

Post by r055 » Sat Oct 20, 2007 12:53 pm

The revs stick at just above 2k when coming of the accelerator. I can clear it by pumping the pedal every time.

Its not the pedal or throttle cable as the same thing happens when i rev it at the throttle body.

I have the standard plastic one on it just now and have always been on the look out for an alloy one on Ebay.

When the plastic TBs play up do they not usually stick at any rev range. The reason im asking is that mine always sticks at exactly the same revs.

TIA

Have you reset the throttle position sensor?

Turn the ignition on, and slowly pump the throttle pedal half a dozen or so times. Turn the ignition off, and when you fire the car up next it should be fine.

Sounds very similar the symptoms I had with the old plastic throttle body.
Remember to look on eBay under MGF also as I believe they are the same (best check with a guru though). You might pay a Rover price instead of a Lotus one :D

I ended up with the standard size alloy one (48mm?). Never had a problem since.

Craig,
Not had a chance yet! Got called away to dublin last minute on wednesday after thinking I could have a week off from it!

I'll try the tps reset first, then try and take mine apart and clean it. If that still doesn't work, I'll try your old one.

Did yours not stick as well?
