:( , Window adjusters on door panels, I messed up ...help!

Post by Jamie84 » Sun Dec 16, 2007 1:41 pm

Totall Nightmare. Few weeks back I had a problem with drivers window, it was jamming half way down . Found the problem to be a screw near the wing mirror which was catching the glass . Screw was threaded, took it out problem solved. Dont think it was doing much anyways . So panel back on , then noticed that i had a small leak from that window . So today I tried to sort it by adjusting the window adjusters to can get to without taking off the panel .Unscrewed the front one too much and the screw came right out and the black rail thing its attatched to is now flapping about inside the door and jamming the window much more severly . I cant see how its possible to get the screw and rail back together ? Spent half an hour just trying to get the window in the up position without cracking it . Wasnt pleasant .

Does any one have any advice on this matter ? I am hoping its something I can sort myself without having to get the car to ali .

Ali ? Anyone ?

Ps. Ali If its fairly simple , I could call you and talk me through ? If its a workshop jobby its gonna have to be after xmas , along with my pads , tyres , service :(

No real help to you but I recently had a problem with my window getting stuck 3/4 of the way up. I spent ages and ages fiddling with bits and getting nowhere fast, and making it worse  Eventually I was passing MMC and they sorted it in the time it took me to have a coffee in the showroom. Suppose that means its usually simple enough if you know what you are doing.

It's a skint knuckle job - and a complete PITA. Took me about 2 or 3 hours of swearing!

Option 1 - window fully down; attach the screw to the screwdriver (with loctite stuff - can't remember what it's called!) gently prise the seals apart and screw the screw back in! however the screw will fall inside the door at least 10 times - there'll be lots of swearing and skint knuckles! But a little perseverance and you'll get it! Use threadlock or something to prevent it working loose again!

Option 2 -in hindsight - it's probably easiest to take the doorpanel off and the window out, rubbeseals off the frame and screw it back in!

Option 3 - least frustrating - get someone who knows what they're doing to fix it! - ( is it still under warranty?)

They won't do the work under warrenty now and I'm not sure that the electric windows will work in an identical maner to ours.

I think you are meaning the screw i have already removed , the one near the wing mirror? The one I am on about, well there are two of them , they are at the bottom of the dorr panel and apparently they adjust the tilt on the window. You can excess them by simply opening the door, no need to remove panels. I have unscrewed the one closest to the front of car too far and it came loose ,cant see how the runner attatches back to window :(

Renmure , I think the original problem is actually quite common, noticed alot of threads at elisetalk.co on the issue but none about whats happened now with mine

The easy solution appears to be to tighten the first screw I was first on about near the wing mirror , this would only take few mins , although mines was threaded so i just removed . i think it holds one of the rubber seals against the window but didnt look that important .

On my old S2 Exige with electric windows, I removed and refitted the glass on both sides when I got it tinted.

If you take off the suede or plastic door panel (I can mind if your car is a touring or not) then its fairly obvious what does what - there is a rail, a toothed runner, and a scissor arrangement that controls the window.

Once you get the door panel off you should be able to work it out. I never touched any screws at the bottom of the door when height adjusting mine, it was all done with the panel off, and once the windows were back in it didnt leak after I had adjusted it.

JJ, I have had the panel off a few times now and your right its fairly straight forward , well most of it . The part thats came loose is a black peice of metal I think its the runner . I am gonna give it another bash when I get some time I thnk If I strip out the door handle bit I might get into it a bit easier. Ah the Joys ! least i am getting to know the car a bit better .....
