Radiator/Fan Problem

Post by Tom » Mon Dec 31, 2007 7:13 pm

Fan still starts and stops as normal, but something's interfering with it which you can only hear immediately on start up, or just as it's winding down on stopping. As the fan's on the underside of the rad. and is a pig to get to, anyone any ideas as to what it might be??

cheers,

Tom.

Pete had a similar thing so may be able to tell you what caused it on his car.

Mine fouls on it's shroud when it is running causing a "plastic fan blade rubbing against plastic surround" type noise.

Unfortunately I forgot to mention it when I was having a new rad fitted so it still does it. I find the best solution is to ignore it, and if it kicks in when I am parked pretend it is coming from someone else's car.

Tom

As per Pete, both my cars do it. N1 is worse, and if it has not been on for a while, I have to free it manually with a long screwdriver through the front grill.

N3 works fine but is just noisy, so I ignore it.

why not line the inside surface of the shroud with grip tape. that will soon deal with the interference issues

You use it as a step point on the roll cage - stops your feet from slipping on the way in and out
