Core plug is a big metal smartie tube lid, they are hammered into the side of the block to fill big holes. I suppose they will pop if the block freezes but they are a very tight fit so overheating should blow the rad cap long before a core plug goes. The rad would pop next I would think or at least blow a hose off long before a core plug went.

Good job its under warranty!

The fan arrived @ MMC Tuesday & I just got a call from Bill to say she is fixed now. Also a new radiator as far as I believe.... no HGF !!

I asked Bill about the core-plug and he says that it was a mis-communication on the sheet... it was actually written down as the core of the radiator that blew, not a core-plug. He picked up on that incorrectly when we spoke last.

So, no popped core-plugs & no HGF gives me a bit of confidence that the engine/head should be still OK for a while.

Warranty should be footing the majority of the bill (pardon the pun), but doesn't cover the coolant. I think I can cover that one. Pick her up tomorrow... almost a year to the day since I picked her up after buying.
