Changing brake pads straight forward?

Post by Jamie84 » Sun Jan 13, 2008 11:27 pm

Was gonna get ali to do them , but I think the Pagids will come tomorow and I'll prob be desperate to get them on , plus i like to try the odd bit myself.

Done the pads on the MG before no problem , any things I should look out for with the lotus ? any tools I need ? any hints or tips ?

Thanks guys

You'll need pliers to pull the R-clips off, put them somewhere safe as they are a nightmare to find if you just dump them on the drive. You should then just be able to pull the pins out with pliers but you might need to tap them out from the back first.

You'll need something to push the pistons back in with. Be careful not to damage the disc :)

After you've finished the whole job check your brake fluid level, it should be ok but the perfect time to check it.

Hope this helps

fronts are a easy, but rears can sometimes be a pain in the ass if you dont have the right tools. you can manage with long nose pliers, but be carefull!

ps.

do a search on here for bedding the pads in before you go all 'smokey and the bandit' with your police buddies!

IIRC there is (used to be?) a guide on the pagid website???

Copper grease on the backing plate of the pad, will help reduce squeal. Don't go mad with it and keep greasy fingers off the disc!!

Not so stupid question: Are you confident jacking up the car and supporting it on axle stands? Don't mean to teach you to suck eggs but make sure you know what you are doing, the potential for disaster is significant if you're not careful....:thumbsup

Good luck
