stereo wiring

ive put in a stereo that can play dvd's but it will only show pictures when it knows the parking brake is applied. where will i be able to take a signal from the handbrake? im thinking at the sensor at the actual handbrake, but i hope not cos i dont wanna run a wire a light comes on the dash when the handbrake is applied so im thinking i could tap into that, but im not sure. any help would be greatly welcome

Ok, a couple of questions if i may?

Do you really want to display films only when the handprake is applied or all the time? All the time is probably an easier option, as you can just take a 12v feed from the stereo harness and connect it to the correct pin

What kind of stereo is it? If i can get a pinout of the handbrake connector, i'll be able to tell you what needs connected to where.

i hadn't thought about bypassing the handbrake altogether silly boy i am!! yeah if i take a feed that should do the trick. cheers stevie

Most switches are earth switching, so chances are you just need to strap the handbrake input signal to the earth signal, job done.

Having said that, you won't hear a word nor be able to see the screen while the elise bounces, rattles and clonks its way down the street
